ઉનાળાના આકરા તાપમાં તે ખુલ્લા પગે ચાલતા ચાલતા ગામની પાદરે પહોંચ્યો . પગની પાનીમાં ફોલ્લા ઉપડ્યા હતા તે ધીરે રહીને પીપળાના છાયા માં બેસી પડ્યો . આગળ એક ડગલું પણ ચાલી શકાય તેવી તેની શક્તિ નહોતી.ત્રણ દિવસ પેહલા બે સૂકી રોટલી ખાધાનું તેને યાદ હતું. ત્યાંથી પસાર થનાર વટેમાર્ગુ તેની તરફ ઘૃણાથી જોતા જોતા પસાર થઇ જતા હતા , તેના દીદાર પણ એવાજ હતા મેલું અને ફાટેલું બુશશર્ટ અને ચોળાયેલો લેંઘો. મફાભાઇ જયારે ત્યાંથી પસાર થતા હતા ત્યારે તેમને દયા આવી અને ઉભા રહી પૂછ્યું " ચ્યોંથી આવ સ ભઈ ? નોમ શું સ તારું ?
