પ્રેમનગરી તરીકે અોળખાતી સોનગીર નામે સ્વર્ગ સમાન નગરી હતી .આ નગરમાં દેવચંદ નામે પ્રજાપ્રેમી રાજા રહેતો હતો. રાજાની બે સુંદર રાણીઅો હતી. અેકનું નામ દેવબાઇ અને બીજી રાણીનું નામ રૂપવતી હતું .રાજ‍ાને શિકાર કરવાનો ઘણો જ શોખ હતો, રાજા દરરોજ શિકાર કરવા સાંજના સમયે જંગલમાં જતો હતો...અેક વખત પુનમની રાતે રાજા નદિના કિનારે રાતે પાણી પીવા આવતા પ્રાણીઅોનો શિકાર કરવા કિનારે આવેલ સાગનાં ઝાડ ઉપર ચડીને ધનુષ્યનું બાણ ચડાવી શિકારની રાહ જોઇ ઝાડ ઉપર બેસી રહ્યો હતો.... પુનમનું અજવાળું જાણે દિવસ જ હોય તેમ લાગતું હતું, રાજા ઝાડ ઉપર બેસી શિક‍ાર અમણાં આવશે ,
