Beware Of her “Karishmatic” Sword…

She started playing with the “sword” at the tender age of 13 & within two years she mastered the game so well that she became youngest coach for fencing sport in Gujarat. Meet Karishma Mehboobkhan Talukdar, a national coach of Fencing sport. The youngest national Fencing coach ( and player too)representing Gujarat. Karishma is a sport diva in making. Though she coaches Fencing players of Gujarat, she is a multi talented sports person. At the age of 15 she has played & mentored sports like volleyball, gateball, table tennis, badminton, soft tennis & skipping.


She started her sports activities when she was studying in 8th standard. She played all these games at different levels & performed brilliantly. She played volleyball in state team, for gate ball she was the captain of Gujarat team which stood runner up at national gate ball event.


In national level racketlon played in 2012-13 she stood runner up. The game was organized by Racketlon Federation of India & Gujarat state Racketlon association in Ahmedabad. She also participated in state level skipping championship & performed very well. She also participated in state level volleyball championship in 2012 & in the same year she bagged second prize in national gate ball championship.


But apart from all these games her first love is Fencing. She started playing Fencing at the age of 13 in the under 14 team. Within two years her brilliant performance in Fencing took her to the level of coaching for under 17 team for national Fencing event. She represented Gujarat in 60th national school games Fencing under 17 girls at Telengana in November,2014. She also performed the duties of team manager for the same event.


During 45th state Fencing championship she stood third. She has given coaching to 26 players under 14 & 17 category for state level & national Fencing championship games. During her schooling in GNC, Maninagar she learnt this game from Dhruva Pathak, an another brilliant sports person. Senior Fencing coach Manish Solanki also boosted her spirit.


“Basically this game keeps you fit & energetic. It’s a unique sport. I played it at different age level, from under 14 to under 19. After my good performance I got chance to become youngest coach for teams representing Gujarat at state & national level” says karishma.


Karishma explains the technicality of Fencing ” it’s a team event where one team has three players. There are three events namely “foil”, ”Hippie” & “sabre”. In foil you have to hit your opposite player up to waste, in hippie whole body is covered & in sabre head, some part of the body & hands are to be targeted”.
Her coach Dhruva Pathak says” karishma was very enthusiastic & brilliant sports student. She has worked hard .In future she can do better in this game. She has tremendous potential”. karishma’s mother Pushpaben is also happy with her daughter’s performance. She whole heartedly supports her sports activities. Since sports federation of Gujarat provides game accessories & financial support, Karishma is concentrating for better performance. She intends to start her own Fencing academy to create awareness about this wonderful game.


The principal of GNC school Dhrumin pandya hails karishma’s sports talent “Last year she was in 10th. She performed so well in fencing that she is a national coach for it now. Currently she is doing fairly good with her studies of 11th science and coaching. At GNC School sports do not come under the category of extra curricular. It is an important part of curriculum. It is one of the most important thing that any school can teach.
