Fate of Spreading Rumour

Fate of Spreading Rumour

A long time ago, India was divided into many small kingdoms. One such kingdom was called Ajavanagara and a king named Laghukarna ruled there. Among the council of the king, the chief councilor was named Rasvendra, the sabhapandit was named Akritvidya, the royal astrologer was named Grahakranta Chakravarti and the kotwal was named Vajrakanta Singha.

In a remote village of that kingdom, a man named Bilochan Chakraborty lived with his family. Bilochanababu was the wealthiest and the oldest person in that village. Bilochanbabu was very much respected by all the people of the village.

Some elderly people living in that village used to gather every afternoon in Bilochanbabu's drawing room to play chess and after having delicious tiffin in the evening, everyone would go back to their homes.

One day in the late afternoon, when the evening was almost approaching, Bilochanbabu said to all assembled in his drawing room, I am going for potty, you continue playing. After saying this, Bilochanbabu went towards the garden with a towel on his shoulder and a Lota full of water in his hand.

As Bilochanababu sat exposing his backside for defecation, he felt the tickle of something falling on his anus. Startled, Bilochanababu looked back and saw that a crow's feather, which fell on his anus, tickled him. Seeing the same, Bilochanbabu became very much frightened with the anxiety of happening an imminent danger. Such an incident like a crow's feather falling on the anus during the evening was indication of an omen of some dire danger. His bowel movements stopped and Bilochanababu went back home with pale face and great anxiety.

Seeing Bilochanababu coming back so quickly and his pale face all present worriedly asked in chorus, Mr. Chakraborty you are looking so worried, please tell us what happened. After many requests, Bilochanbabu said if you promise not to tell anyone, then only I can tell. Then everyone present unanimously assured Bilochanbabu that they will not tell anyone.

Thus, being assured, Bilochanababu described in detail the feeling of the crow's feather falling on the anus and the tingling sensation and fear of dire danger. After hearing everything, everyone present was as much alarmed as Bilochanababu. In such a situation, everyone went back to their homes with alarmed faces after ceasing the game of chess that day and without having evening tiffin.

Every wife anxiously asked of their respective husband the reason for returning so soon with alarmed faces. At first all tried unsuccessfully to avoid the answer but finally said that only if they promise not to tell anyone would they be told the reason for their hasty return and fear. Being assured by the wives, they recounted to their respective wives the incident of crow feathers falling on Bilochanababu's anus, and as usual the wives were as terrified as their respective husbands.

Seven days after the incident, King Laghukarna came to know that in a remote village of his kingdom, a number of crows were constantly coming out of and entering into the anus of a man named Bilochan Chakravarty. On learning of this incident, the King being very much horrified, held an emergency meeting and summoned the royal pundits, royal astrologers and kotwal. When all were present, King narrated the incident he had heard happened with Bilochan Chakraborty and asked for everyone's opinion as to what should be done.

Taking a pinch of brown tobacco dust into his nose, shooking his head and clearing his throat a little Sabhapandit said, "Maharaj, the horrible incident is undoubtedly an indication of forthcoming danger for the kingdom. However, my knowledge regarding the remedy against the incident is limited. I think, our honourable astrologer will be able to give proper remedial advice in this regard.

Obeying the order of the King, the astrologer stroked the long Tuft of hair on his head for a while and finally said, "Maharaj, such an ominous man as Bilochan Chakraborty is very dangerous for the society and the country. Deportation or death of such a person is very much imperative to save the country and society according to Shastra.

Hearing the advice of the royal astrologer, the King ordered the Kotwal to behead Bilochan Chakraborty and present his severed head to the king.

As soon as he got the order of the King, the Kotwal set out for Bilochanababu's village and on reaching there the next day, cut off Bilochanababu's head and presented it to the King.

“Bilochanababu's fears came true - only because of spreading of Rumour”
