Predicament of a Girl
A romantic and sentimental thriller
Kotra Siva Rama Krishna
“No one is that much beautiful and peculiar among all the girls whom I have seen till now.” Sarath said.
“Thank you!” Charitha’s cheeks were blushed on hearing that.
The conversation in between them was going on in English.
“It is just a fact.” Sarath was intended to say something more but before that Tarang said releasing him from his hug but still keeping his right hand around his shoulders. “He is now a successful hero but when I asked him to play this role he readily agreed.”
“How could I deny that sir when it is you who made me a hero?” the grateful expression in his face appeared genuine to Charitha. “While I was unable to get even small roles, you gave me the hero character and that movie made me a big hero. I just do act in any type of character if you ask me.”
“Alright. Alright.” Tarang removed his hand from his shoulders and said. “She is just the one as I want. She is absolutely new not just to the movie field but to acting also. She does not know even a little of Tamil.”
“So my assumption that she is the exact one to fit your thinking did not go wrong!”
“You are absolutely right!” Tarang nodded his head. “I have waited all these years only to get an exact person like her to play the heroine character in my movie.” He paused for a second and said again. “You talk with her and make her feel at home. As you both are going to act for sometime, intimacy of you both is very much important. Acquaint yourselves with each other as much as possible. I do go and look after the matters.” after looking into the faces of both those people for the last time, Tarang went away from that place.
Charitha slumped herself in the chair she sat before and Sarath put himself in the chair in which Tarang vacated just minutes back.
“I am sorry but I don’t see any of your movies yet.” Charitha said in Telugu as she did not think of in which other way to start the conversation with him. “I know that you do speak Telugu.”
“None of my movies have been dubbed into Telugu, so there is no chance that you can see my movies.” Sarath said with a smile. “But believe me some of my movies are big hits and I am a level hero here.”
Charitha laughed and said. “I sure do believe it!” then her laughter turned into a smile and she asked him. “How can you speak Tamil and Telugu with equal fluency like this?”
“I born here and brought up here upto my fifth class. As my father was a central government employee, he has been transferred to some place in Tamilnadu, therefore we have to shift to there when I was in sixth class. From then on I spent my time only in that state and so I can learn Tamil like that. As Telugu is my mother tongue and as I spent my time till my tenth year or so here itself and as we prefer to speak only in Telugu in our home, I can speak Telugu also this fluently. As per the requirements of this movie, the villain character should speak in Telugu and Tamil well. That is the one main reason why this Tarang selected me for this role.”
“But.........” frowns gathered on the forehead of Charitha “............ how a soft and handsome person likes you fits in a villain role?”
“I also got this doubt and got my clarification also from Tarang.” Sarath said. “The heroine is educated and a beautiful and sensible girl. How that girl does fell in love with a rough looking guy? So I have been selected for this character.”
“Whatever you have said is a reasonable explanation but still.......” Charitha paused for a second. “..........I don’t think that the audience accept a personality like you as villain.”
“Our director Tarang never bothers about the thinking of the audience. He just will do whatever he thinks fit. He thinks like that and it will be just so. Moreover he is an uncompromising type.” He paused for a second before saying again. “You know one thing! The person who enters into this movie as a hero in the second half is thirty two years or so aged guy and rough looking. His wife dies recently and he comes to the heroine for that.”
“It is even more difficult to the audience to accept him as hero than accept you as villain.”
“I already told you that our director does not bother about the interests of audience.”
“It seems that you have been told the whole story of the movie.” Charitha leaned back in the chair and adjusted herself for more comfort.
“Tarang sees every person who is playing roles in his movie to know about the story of it in full. He thinks then only he or she can put their heart and soul in the role they are playing.”
“That much is true.” Nodding her head in agreement Charitha said. “Okay then. You know the full story of this movie. Now tell me are you feeling that this movie would become a hit?”
“I am not thinking it becomes a hit, it may not be.” Sarath leaned back in the chair and adjusted for more comfort. “I just cannot know why he is that much zero-in on to produce a movie with such a controversial concept. I even tried to dissuade him from producing it but he did not listen. How such an unfavourable concept to the people has become his pet, I cannot understand.”
“I am feeling happy that you are also feeling in the same way I am.” With a satisfying expression in her face, Charitha said.
“He tries to be contradictive in every movie he produces but the surprising thing is almost all his movies are hits. But I am not thinking like that about this movie. With such a controversial subject, I don’t think it plays well.”
Charitha did not say anything but she really felt very bad on hearing that. She knew how much that Tarang was thinking about this movie.
“The budget for this movie also is high! Three crores or more. I don’t think that he can get back even half of that amount from this movie.”
Charitha indeed startled on hearing that. “Why, why he has become that much mad to make a movie like this?”
“Only he knows the answer to it.” Sarath said. “But I am thinking certainly there is a reason for his determining that much to put that controversial concept onto the screen so.”
Charitha remained silent as she did not know what to say more and after few seconds breaking that silence, Sarath said. “As you are completely new to the directing style of Tarang, you may better know about it before start acting in his movie.”
“Not just to his directing style but I am absolutely new to this entire movie field and acting.” Charitha laughed and said. “You also know about it.”
“Of course, yes.” Sarath nodded his head with a smile. “He will not be as smooth as he is appearing and talking while he is directing a movie. Sometimes it is very much difficult to satisfy him. He shoots the same scene any number of times until he satisfies with it. There were instances that actors broke out into weeping as they could not satisfy him with their acting.”
“My god!” once again Charitha’s face was filled with horrifying expression. “If it is so, how my situation is going to be? I am absolutely a new bee to this acting and movies.”
“I am sorry. I put you into fear but I thought that it is important that you do know about it. I don’t want you to be shocked suddenly finding him as a tough and rough character.”
“You are absolutely right.” Charitha nodded her head and said.
“My role is not much in this movie and I think its length is half an hour or so. But as long as I am here, I shall try to be as much helpful as possible to you.”
“Thank you, thank you very much!” Charitha felt very much happy on hearing that and her face was immediately filled with a grateful expression.
“Its okay. We need not thank each other for anything. I am already feeling you as a friend to me and friends need not thank each other.” Sarath smiled and said “What all you need to do is just be prepared to the sternness of Tarang and try to put your heart on what you are doing.”
“I also feel you as my friend.” Charitha smiled. “Anyhow I already decided to do it like that.” Suddenly there was enthusiasm in Charitha.
They have talked some more time between themselves exchanging so many things regarding their families also until they have been called by Tarang for discussion about the first scene in which both of them were also involved.
***
Everything has been set for the first scene and it explained well to Charitha. She has been clothed in middle class girl’s dress and it was proper and she was feeling comfortable in that dressing. The parents, sisters and cousin of that character also were introduced to her and she was feeling comfortable with them also.
“I know it is very first time to you not just to the camera but to acting also and I am not expecting that you can do it perfect at the first time itself. Just do it in the way you can without feeling any uneasiness.” Tarang said.
“Alright sir.” After hearing it like that Chartia stopped feeling uneasiness.
“Tell me what is the first scene and what you need to do in it?”
“I am in the kitchen cooking something. Then my cousin comes into kitchen along with Aravind, the villain character in this movie and greets me. I greet back my cousin and just look into the face of Aravind. My cousin introduces him to me and I say just ‘hello’ but nothing more. I engage myself in talking with my cousin and Aravind tries to talk with me but I don’t talk with him at all.”
“Do you remember your dialogues well?”
“Of course I do remember.”
“Shall we start it then?”
“Hundred percent!”
Her heart missed a beat when she heard the shouting ‘action’ after she put herself in the kitchen cooking something at the stove there.
“It is surprising you are cooking on this day.” It was the heroine’s cousin on the back of her.
“Mom’s health is not good. So it is I.” Charitha said without turning back “And quite often I take the place of mom in kitchen and you too know about it.”
“Don’t you turn back and look at me. I have taken something new with me on this day.” he said.
Then Charitha left the ladle in the pan and turned back. Frowns gathered on the forehead of her seeing a new man on the right side of him.
“He is a close friend to me but it is the very first time to me to take him here. So none of you people know about him.”
Charitha looked into the face of that man for few seconds and said ‘hello’ before looking into her cousin’s face.
“For the last fifteen years or so he has been living in the state of Tamilnadu. Before that he lived in our state itself and it was in those days we both have become good friends. He can speak Tamil and Telugu both very well.” Her cousin said.
“Don’t you try to get a good job with stable salary? How do you forget that you are a married man with children?” as if she did not hear what he has said, Charitha asked him.
