You, Me and Desert - 12

As soon as the boys took off their helmets, they recognized their trainer, Chhote Sahib, who had left without informing anyone a few days ago. The boys surrounded him and bombarded him with questions one after another. Everyone was astonished to learn that none of the assumptions they had about him were true. He was neither ill, nor had any of his relatives lodged a police complaint about him. These were mere rumors that had somehow spread here.

Chhote Sahib had actually been called by the stadium authorities, and since he himself didn’t know why he had been summoned, he hadn’t informed anyone about his departure.

Look at what was thought and what actually happened! People tend to blow things out of proportion.

Kabir stood a short distance away against a wall, watching Chhote Sahib with wide eyes and without saying anything. The other boys had approached him to at least greet him. Some shook his hand, others touched his feet, while a few just said "Namaste." Rohan had enthusiastically hugged him, but Kabir remained standing.

He felt as if waves were emanating from his body, trying to force him toward Chhote Sahib. Finally, Chhote Sahib came over to him, shook his hand, and then hugged him. The group of boys followed closely behind.

And then came a tremendous bang. Chhote Sahib made an announcement that felt like he had burst a firecracker, which was followed by cheers, whistles, and applause from the boys.

Chhote Sahib revealed that he had been selected as a coach for a shooting team going to Venezuela and that he needed to return to the players’ training camp today.

Soon after, he emerged from the senior coach's office, distributing sweets that he had received. The senior coach warmly congratulated him with a handshake.

The atmosphere in the area changed once again.

Kabir maintained his serious demeanor on the outside, but inside, it felt like laddoos were bursting in his heart. The clouds that had overshadowed his mind for several days had suddenly cleared, giving way to golden sunshine.

He silently recalled the picture of Rajmata and paid his respects, as if he had stood before her portrait and made a wish that was now fulfilled. The enthusiasm for his competition success that he had lost in recent days returned unexpectedly to his youthful face, bringing back a glow.

Rohan pinched his arm again, calling him "Black Hole," which made Kabir shy away. Rohan said, "Boss, don’t forget to pay attention to shooting!" Kabir didn’t understand the meaning of his words and looked at him in surprise. Rohan laughed heartily and added, "I mean, don’t just get stuck on shooting. You need to win too."

Kabir gave him a playful punch on the back, and they all headed together toward the mess for a meal.

These activities are new to the boys working there. Generally the gossip occurs between the young boys but it is all about the girls having relationship with males only. But here there was no such case. Only males were there in the hostel or mess.
