Withania coagulans is a scientific name of a medicinal plant called as paneer dodi or Paneer phool in Hindi language and Indian rennet in English language,Sanskrit:Ashutosh booti/ Rishyagandha, Tamil: Panneer ilai ched.
Paneer phool is a plant in the Solanaceae or nightshade family, native to Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Indian subcontinent. Within the genus Withania, W. somnifera (Ashwagandha) and W. coagulans (Paneer dodi) are the two economically significant plants and are cultivated in several regions for their use in Ayurveda.
Withania coagulans (WC) is a plant indigenous to the Indian subcontinent.
The plant is native to the Indian subcontinent and survives in wet, marshy areas, often near rivers or lakes.
This plant thrives on sandy loam or light red soils, has adequate drainage, and has a pH between 7.5 and 8.0. The crop is sown between July and August and grows for 150–170 days.
Withania coagulans is a rigid gray undershrub that grows to 60–120 whereas W. somnifera is an erect, evergreen, tomentose shrub 30–75 cm in height. Its roots are stout, fleshy, cylindrical, 1–2 cm in diameter, and whitish brown in color.
Phytochemicals of Withania coagulans:
Various qualitative phytochemical tests were done for the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, carbohydrates, flavonoids etc. It was observed that 50% ethanol extract of Withania coagulans contains carbohydrates, proteins, glycosides, steroids and sterols, anthraquinones and triterpenoids.
Withanolides are lactone steroids that have been identified as the main bioactive phytoconstituents from Withania coagulans.

Presence of steroids in the ethanolic extract of Withania coagulans concluded that , it was found to produce considerable antimicrobial effect . The ethanolic extract of W. coagulans was subjected to the antimicrobial test showed significant inhibitory effect on both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.

The side effects of paneer Phool:
It sometimes lead to lower blood sugar level hence, if you are non-diabetic and feels nauseated or dizzying , you should check your blood sugar level on regular basis.
Paneer should be avoided during fever as during this condition the digestive fire gets disturbed resulting in poor digestion. Paneer being heavy and rich in protein and fat becomes difficult to digest. This results in poor digestion which might further worsen the condition.
