कई वर्ष पहले जिला पुरातत्त्व संघ दतिया के अंतर्गत मैंने पुरातत्त्व पर कार्य करते समय तत्कालीन जिलाधीश महोदय के निर्देश पर अंग्रेजी और हिंदी दोनों भाषाओं में दतिया टूरिस्ट गाइड बनाई थी, इसलिए कि जो विदेशी पर्यटक आते हैं, उन्हें भी यहां की जानकारी अंग्रेजी पाठ के माध्यम से मिल सके। यह गाइड प्रकाशन के लिए जा ही रही थी कि तत्कालीन कलेक्टर महोदय का स्थानांतरण हो गया और फिर तब से यह प्रकाशित नहीं हो सकी। हिंदी और अंग्रेजी में द्विभाषी होने के कारण इसकी उपयोगिता स्वयं सिद्ध है। इसके कुछ अंश अविकल रूप से प्रस्तुत हैं-

स्थिति
दतिया जिला मध्यप्रदेश के उत्तरी भाग में स्थित है इसके निकट दो महत्वपूर्ण नगर है। ग्वालियर (75 कि.मी.) और झांसी (20 कि.मी.) है। प्रमुख पर्यटन स्थल ओरछा और खजुराहो यहाँ से क्रमश 45 कि.मी. और 205 कि.मी. दूर है। दतिया में पर्यटन की दृष्टि से अनेक ऐतिहासिक भवन और धार्मिक स्थल है।

यातायात-रेल, दतिया प्रमुख रेल और सड़क मार्गो से जुड़ा है।
दतिया मध्य रेलवे के दिल्ली मुम्बई प्रमुख मार्ग पर रेलवे स्टेशन है। यहाँ अनेक मेल और एक्सप्रेस गाड़ियों रुकती है यहाँ से पुरी, मुम्बई, दिल्ली, लखनऊ, जबलपुर, और हावडा के लिये सीधी गाड़िया है। झाँसी निकटतम जंक्शन है जहाँ सभी और के लिये सुपरफास्ट गाडियाँ उपलब्ध है।
सडक दतिया राष्ट्रीय मार्ग 75 और प्रदेशीय राज मार्गों पर है। यहाँ दिल्ली, आगरा, जयपुर इन्दौर, उज्जैन, जबलपुर खजुराहो, और ओरछा के लिये बसें उपलब्ध है।

Location-
Datia district with its headquarters at Datia town lies the northern region of Madhya pradesh It has two important cities in its proximity Gwalior (75Km.) Jhansi (28Km.) Orchha and Khajuraho the main tourists spots are 45 Km. And 205 Km respectively form here. Datia has several historical monuments and holy shrimes worth visiting

Accessibility-
Rail A railway station on Delhi, Mumbai main line of central railway. Several mail and express trains stop here. It has direct trains to puri, Mumbai, Delhi, Varanasi, Lucknow, and Howrah Jhansi is the nearest junction where super fast trains to all destinations are available.
Road Datia lies on the N.H 75 and state Highways. Buses are available here to Agra, Delhi, Jaipur, Indor, Ujjain, Jabalpur. Khajuraho and Orecha. Handicrafts-Mould goods of brass with their decorative and utility value.

पीताम्बरा पीठ दतिया
भगवती पीताम्बरा का यह स्थान प्रसिद्ध जागत शक्तिपीठ है। पूज्य स्वामी जी की साधना और अपरिमेय विद्वन्ता के संस्पर्श से प्राचीन समय का बनखण्डी का यह निर्जन स्थान देश प्रसिद्ध तीर्थ बन गया। 1835 ई. में पीताम्बरा देवी की प्रतिष्ठा के बाद यहां शिव भैरव, धूमावती, आदि देवो की प्रतिष्ठा की गई है। तंत्र शास्त्र सहित समस्त वाड्यम के ज्ञाता पूज्य स्वामीजी ने यहां संस्कृत विद्यालय तथा विभिन्न शास्त्र ग्रंथों के पुस्तकालय की स्थापना की। यहां मिलने वाली ज्योतिष्मती दवा पर औषधि है। प्रत्येक शनिवार को घुमावती देवी की विशेष आरती होती है।
Pitambara peeth, Datia
This holy abode of Goddess pitambara is a famous Shaktipeeth of the country. Previously the place has been in the midst of forests with an ancient temple of Lord Shiva. His holiness Swamiji came here in 1929 A.D. and made the place highly hovered with his spiritual sadhana and stintless knowledge. The peeth enshrines the idols of pitambara Shiva, Bhairava, Dhumavati, and others gods and goddess. There is a rich library a part forms a Sanskrit Vidyalaya here. Jyotishmati, a medieine given here is a parraia.
Special Arati of Dhumavati Devi is performed every Saturday
वीर सिंह देव महल, दतिया (पुराना महल)
सात खंडो का यह भव्य महल वीर सिंह देव प्रथम के उन 52 निर्माणों में सर्वोत्कृष्ठ है। जिनका शिलान्यास 1618 ई. में भिन्न स्थानों पर एक ही तिथि में हुआ था। स्वास्तिक के आकार के इस वर्गाकार महल (एक भुजा 200 फीट) के प्रत्येक खण्ड में चार चौक है और बीच में मडण्प है इनके बीच कक्ष, दालाने और वातायन है। महल के पाँच खण्ड धरातल के ऊपर है और माना जाता है की दो खण्ड नीचे है। पहाड़ी पर बना यह महल स्थापत्य का अदभूत उदाहरण है। गुम्बदों जालियों स्तम्भों पर कटाव तथा कगूरों का शिल्प बेजोड़ एवं कलात्मक है महल की दीवारों पर सुन्दर भित्ति चित्र अंकित है।
Bir Singh Dev palace, Datia
This seven storeyed lofty palace of Bir Singh Dev I is the most out standing of his 52 constructions founded in 1618 A.D. on one and the same day. The palace is square shaped (each side 200 ft) and mitates the Swastika' figure. Each storey contains four chowks and a canopy in the middle. Five storeys are above the ground and two are said to be under ground. The palace built on a hillock is like textbook on architecture and sculpture with vivid lessons on demes, lettiees, carring and vaults some walls and the ceiling bear beautiful paintings.
राजगढ़ महल, दतिया
1767 ई. में दतिया के तत्कालीन राजा शत्रुजीत द्वारा ऊँचे टीले पर निर्मित
यह महल स्थापत्य और पच्चीकारी की कला के लिये दर्शनीय है। अनके प्रकोष्ठों
और वीथिकाओं वाले इस भव्य महल के दरबार हॉल में भित्ति पर दतिया राज्य का सम्मान चिन्ह माही मरातिव अंकित है। महल के एक भाग में पुरातत्व विभाग का संग्रहालय है जिसमें दुर्लभ प्राचीन वस्तुओं तथा हिन्दी, संस्कृत, फारसी, के प्राचीन और मध्यकालीन महत्त्वपूर्ण
हस्तलिखित ग्रन्थों का संग्रह है।
Rajgarh Palace, Datia
Built in 1767 A.D. by Raja Shatrujeet of Datia Rajgarh Palace is an exquisite piece of architecture renowned for its grandeur and carving work. Beside several specious rooms and galleries the palace has a Durbar Hall display on its wall the Royal ensign Mahi Maratib',
One portion of the palace houses a museum of rare articles and a library of Hindi, Sanskrit, and Persian manuscripts of great importance.
जैन तीर्थ, सोनागिर
दतिया से लगभग 12 किमी. पर मध्य रेलवे के दिल्ली मुम्बई रेलमार्ग पर स्थित सोनागिर देश का सिद्ध दिगम्बर जैन तीर्थ है।
पहाड़ी पर स्थित लगभग 80 जैन मन्दिरों की भव्य श्रृंखला पर्यटकों और श्रद्धालुओं के आकर्षण का केन्द्र है। आठवें तीर्थकर चन्द्र प्रभु का मन्दिर सबसे महत्तपूर्ण है जिसमें एक ही शिला को काट कर बनायी गयी 12 फीट ऊँची मूर्ति प्रतिष्ठित है।
Jain Temples, Sonagir
Sonagir is one of the holiest shrimps of Digamber Jains. Its is a railway station on the Delhi Mumbai central Railway about 12 km from Datia.
A series of about 80 temples on a hillock presents a fascinating panoramic view. The temple of the eighth Tirthankar Chandraprabhu is the most important one. It enshrines a 12ft tall idol of chandra prabhuji carved out of a single rock.
सूर्य मंदिर, उनाव
दतिया से 17 किमी पूर्व में पहूज नदी के तट पर स्थित उनाव का सूर्य मंदिर सूर्योपासना का प्राचीन और प्रसिद्ध स्थल है। बालाजी के नाम से प्रचलित विशाल परिसर के इस मंदिर में शिलोत्कीर्ण सूर्य यंत्र की पूजा होती है। इस गोलाकार यंत्र की आकृति में 21 त्रिभुज है।
इस प्राचीन स्थल पर मंदिर का निर्माण और विस्तार अठारहवी शताब्दी और उसके बाद हुआ। लोक विश्वास के अनुसार पहूज में स्नान करके गीले वस्त्रों में बालाजी को जला देने से सभी तरह के धर्मरोग ठीक हो जाते हैं।
Sun Temple, Unao
The sun temple of Unao popularity known as Balaji is situated on the bank of the river Pahuj nearly 17 km away from Datia. This ancient holy shrime of Sun worship has a Surya Yantra engraved on a round piece of stone. The figure cantinas 21 triangles.
The present temple was constructed and extended in the 8th
century and even later. According to the popular belief people get cured of all sorts of Dermatitis by bathing in the river and in wet clothes offering holy water in the temple.
सम्राट अशोक का शिलालेख, गुजर्रा
दतिया से लगभग 17 कि.मी. दूर गुजर्रा गांव में मौर्य सम्राट अशोक द्वारा 257 ई.पू. एक चट्टान पर खुदवाया गया ऐतिहासिक शिलालेख है। प्राकृत भाषा और ब्राहमी लिपि में उत्कीर्णित इस शिलालेख में भी मस्की (कर्नाटक) के शिलालेख की तरह सम्राट का व्यक्तिगत नाम 'अशोक राजा अंकित हैं। शिलालेख के प्राकृत पाठ का डॉ. डी.सी. सरकार द्वारा किया गया अंग्रेजी अनुवाद एपीग्राफिका इंडिका' में प्रकाशित है। यह शिलालेख इस क्षेत्र की प्राचीनता का परिचायक है।
Rock Ediet of Emperor Ashoka, Gujarra
This famous rock ediet of historical significance lies in a village. Gujarra about 17km away from Datia. Dating back to 257 B.C the ediet is in prakrit language and Brahmi script. The inscription is unique in bearing the personal name of the Emperor as "Asoka Raja" the only other of its like is in Maski (Karnataka). An English translation of the text done by Dr. D.C. Sarkar has been published in Epigraphic Indicia. This inscription corroborates to the antiquity of the place.
सनकुआँ, सेंबढ़ा
दतिया से 65 कि.मी. दूर सेवढ़ा में सिन्ध नदी के बीच में प्राकृतिक रूप से निर्मित सनकुओं जल प्रपात तथा कुड नैसर्गिक सौन्दर्य और धार्मिक श्रद्धा का मनोरम स्थल है। लगभग 25.30 फीट ऊपर चट्टान से गिरते घवल पट का आभास
देते पानी से नीचे एक कुंड बन गया है। पानी के पीछे गुफाएं है। जनश्रुति है कि ब्रह्मा के चार पुत्रों ने यहाँ तपस्या की थी। उन्ही के संदर्भ से इस स्थान को सनत्कूप या सनकुआँ कहा जाता है।। सेवढ़ा में प्रसिद्ध कन्हरगढ़ दुर्ग के अतिरिक्त अनेक देवालय और मेट भी दर्शनीय है।
Sankua, Seondha
Sankua or Sanatkoop as it is mythologically termed is beautiful waterfall formed naturally of a high rock in the river Sindh about 65 km from Datia. The water falling from height of about 25-30 ft formes a dazzling white screen behind which some caves serve as cool and cosy resorts.
The place is behieved to be associated with Lord Brahma four sons who observed penanees here. Apart from the famous 'Kanhargarh fort several holy
shrimps are also worth a visit in Seondha.
छतरियाँ, दतिया
करन सागर तालाब के किनारे दतिया के शासक रहे राजाओं-रानियों की चिता स्थलियों पर बने स्मारक (छतरियाँ) स्थापत्य के साथ भित्तिचित्रों की बहुलता और सुन्दता के कारण आकर्षण का केन्द्र है। इनमें राजा पारीछत (1801.1839) की छतरी की दीवारों और छतों के भीतरी भाग पर हजारों चित्र बुन्देली कलम की दतिया शैली के श्रेष्ठ उदाहरण है। जिनमें भागवत पर आधारित कृष्ण लीलाओं के साथ अन्य अवतारों की कथाऐं चित्रित है। साथ ही राजा परीछत तथा उनके दरबारी सरदार भी चित्रित है और उनके नाम भी अंकित है। ये चित्र 1839 से 1845 के बीच के है।
Chhatries, Datia
As a tradition memorials were built in commemoration of the kings and queens of Datia. They are called Chhatries. The chhatries of Raja Parichhat near Karan Sanger Tank in out standing for its architecture and beautiful painting on its walls and the ceilings Numerous paintings depicting various religious themes and other subjects are true examples of Datia style called Datia Kalam.
चंदेवा वावडी
दतिया से भाण्डेर मार्ग पर 10 कि.मी. दूर स्थित यह वावडी वीरसिंह देव प्रथम के 52 निर्माणों में से एक है। स्थापत्य और कलात्मक सौन्दर्य की अनुठी कृति होने के साथ ही इस बावडी का उपयोग जलागार तथा यात्रियों के पड़ाव के रूप में होता रहा है बावडी के चारो और दो दर की प्रसस्त दालानों में सैकड़ों लोग एक साथ ठहर सकते है। प्रवेश द्वार तीन मंजिल का है।
Baodi of Chandewa
This Baodi is also one of the 52 construction of Bir Singh Dev 1. About 10 Km away from Datia towards Bhander the Baodi was built to serve as the water reservoir and a resting place to the travelers.
There are large corridors or room around the well where hundreds of people can stay together. The entrance gate is three storeyed.
लाला का ताल, दतिया
नगर में जलापूर्ति की दृष्टि से दतिया के राजाओं ने चारों ओर तालाबों का निर्माण करवाया था। 1717 ई में राजा रामचन्द्र द्वारा निर्मित लाला का ताल में ही वर्ष भर पानी रहता है। पुराने महल के पीछे सुन्दर परिवेश में बन इस तालाब के किनारे ग्वालियर मार्ग पर मप्र पर्यटन विभाग का नवनिर्मित मोटल हैं। सौन्दर्यीकरण और नौकायन की परियोजना से इस स्थल का स्वरूप और आकर्षक हो जायेगा।
Lala ka Tal, Datia
In order to ensure constant availability of water to the citizens the rulers of the erstwhile state of Datia constructed large tanks around the town. Built in 1717 A.D. by Raja Ramchandra Lal ka tal is the only perennial tank today. Situated on the rear of the over looking old palace the tank has beautiful environs with a motel of MP Tourism on its western bank project of its beautification and provision of ferry boating will give the site a more presentable look.
शिव मंदिर भरौली
भाण्डेर से 6 कि.मी. दूर गुप्त काल से पूर्व भाग शिव नाग युग का अनुमानित यह प्राचीन शिव मन्दिर तीसरी शताब्दी ई का है। मन्दिर शिलाखण्डो से निर्मित है. तथा स्थापत्य की दृष्टि से सुन्दर है। मन्दिर के चारों ओर के चार द्वारों की चौखट, उनके बगल की मूर्तियों और गर्भगृह के खमों पर बनी कलाकृतियों आकर्षक है। पास की एक पहाड़ी पर दो नन्दी स्थापित है।
Shiv Temple of Bharroli
The temple of God Shiva in the village Bharroli near Bhander is a fine example of architecture. It belongs probably to the third century A.D. when Bar Shiva Nagas ruled over this region before acceding to the Gupta dynasty.
The sculpture of the four doors panels. The idols and the images and the pillars inside the temple is fantastic two Nandis (Holy bull of God Shiva) a top a hillock near by are also worth seeing.
रतनगढ़ का देवी मंन्दिर
संवढा तहसील में सिन्ध नदी के पार घने जंगल के बीच रतनगढ़ गांव में पहाड़ी पर परमार राजा रतन सेन के किले के अग्नावशेष है। वहीं देवी का मन्दिर है जो व्यापक लोक आस्था का केन्द्र है। चित्तौड़ के राजा रतन सेन और राजकुमारी पदिमनी की तरह यहाँ भी अलाउद्दीन खिलजी के आक्रमण की कथा प्रचलित है। कहते है कि देवी का मन्दिर राजकुमारी माडूला और चबूतरा उसके भाई के प्राण त्याग का स्थल है। शिवाजी के गुरु रामदास ने इसी स्थान पर रह कर शिवाजी की आगरा जेल से मुक्ती की योजना बनायी थी।
Mata Maan Mandir of Ratangarh
Among the thick forests across the river sindh lies a village Ratangarh. There are remains of a dilapidated fort of parmar king Ratan Sen and a Devi temple on a hill. A story similar to that of Alauddin Khilzi's attack on chittor for padmini is also popular here. The goddess believed to be the deification of princess Madula and the platform symbolizes her brother.
Guru Ram Das stayed here and planned the release of Shivaji from Agra prison of Aurangzeb.
