Chapter-7

A Warning

Mr. Davis please keep a big heart and forgive us. I beg in front of him so that he doesn’t hurt my friends. For a moment he stares me and then leaves without saying a word. What will I do now? Oh God! I enter my apartment and lay down on the couch and look at the ceiling of the wall. Mr. Ethan is not a bad person and I think he will never get serious with any woman. I check my cell phone; Gloria’s message was in our ‘high school buddies’ group’.

Hi, Is everyone tired of party?

No, we are not.

Where are others?

They are busy dear.

You are not with them.

I am tried too, today I had dinner with my boss.

Great, Is it a date?

No, just a business dinner.

Oh! Really, where is Hannah? She was supposed to post her fiancée pic.

She is with him.

Marlin …

Marriage on her cards very soon.

Really congrats! seems our girl is busy.

I need to go.

Bye guys!

Gloria

Bye & take care

Marlin

take care

I reply her back.

Finally, she is getting engaged. I think next is Joey or maybe Aron. Joey has a crush on her sister’s friend Diana but she never gives him a chance.   I go to kitchen for coffee and then switch on the television to watch a movie.  Suddenly, Joey calls me.

Hello! Joey

Hi

Nora, I forgot my wallet at your place. If you find it, let me know.

Hey! Joey, Mr. Davis recognised us and was threatening me that we all should be punished. Don’t worry Nora, his bones are not enough to take revenge. I can handle him alone.

Joey laughs and hangs up.

May be Joey is right, he cannot do anything bad to us.

I switch off the lights to sleep hard.

Next day, in office during lunch time Margaret asks me about the dinner with boss. It was good. He talked about professional matters; it was not more than a business dinner. Sometimes, we judge people on the impressions but they are not what we think. Maybe you are right! Says Margaret. I ask her not to tell anyone about my dinner with him because Ethan has an image of a womaniser. You understand, what I mean. Yes, I even don’t talk much with anyone as they are also not happy with my promotion. Oh! come on Nora! please they are not your near or dear ones, so don’t bother about them.

After the lunch break, we will be having a meeting regarding sales and profit or our store products. Ethan handed me a very important file which has the papers of his future collaborations with other businesses. Please keep it safely because beside you no one should know about it as it can affect the shares of the company that he is going to purchase to hit the market. I nod and come back to my office and decide to keep the file in my locker for which I carry the keys in my purse.

In the evening when I reach home, I see police come to Mrs. Marie’s place. I jump over them and ask what happened? Mrs Marie is missing for two days. His son George has complained about her missing. Her cell phone is switched off and she is found nowhere. Missing? Nora, could you please tell us when did you see Mrs Marie last?  I saw her on Saturday. Maybe she was going to meet her friends. My throat choked while answering. She doesn’t anyone beside her son. Police informs me. If you see her again, let us know. we are doing our best to find her.

I was fear-stricken. Oh my God! Where has she gone? Shall I talk about Mr Davis and her fight? No, I don’t want to take any risk. Hope she will be fine and returns back soon.

I check my cell phone no messages in ‘high school buddies’ group except some good morning and evening videos posted by Aaron and Grace. I call Hannah but her phone continuously busy and then I call Grace hey! Grace, do you know what has happened?

Nora, you sound worried, Hannah is upset that you couldn’t make it on sunday. I know, I called her but her phone is going busy. You know Mrs Marie is missing. I tell in her one breath. Maybe she has a place to visit. No, she doesn’t have anyone except her son who has filed her missing complaint. It’s good now you are going to live in peace she laughs. No, Grace but it scares me when I think about what Davis told me. Don’t worry, everything will be fine. Don’t bother about him much, now I hang up my new boyfriend is calling.

I drink lot of water and try to swallow the news that Mrs. Marie is missing. Just then my door bell rings and I see Mr Davis standing on my door. Can you lend me your charger, mine is not working? I ask, do you know about Mrs. Marie? Yes, I heard, although I don’t like her but hope she will be fine. He said while holding the charger and leaves expressionless.

I decided to watch television to feel good. Do I need to change my place? But this is the best place in New York city. I got this apartment at cheap rates because my aunt knew the property agent. I call my aunt but her phone switched off, maybe she had slept. She sleeps early.

Next morning, when I leave for office. My eyes see Mrs. Marie apartment which was locked and silent. I feel bad for Mrs Marie and prays for her safety. I reach office when my cell phone pings as there were number of messages in my inbox. I open it and see that everyone in our group was sending messages constantly. I read their chat. Hannah posted some pictures. They all were commenting on her pictures.  I also decide to write something but stopped when I see the pictures of Hannah and her fiancée. This guy is familiar to me. Oh no! He is none other than Victor Clarke but why did he tell his name as Mike to Hannah? I get up from chair and come out of cabin to look for victor and get to know that he is on leave. That Bastard is playing with my friend’s feelings.
