This is Oscar Season in the USA . While this article is being written here , the 95th Oscar award ceremony is scheduled for 12th March 2023 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles . The ceremony will begin at 5 pm ( LA, Pacific time zone ) .
There are three most coveted awards pertaining to movies in the world -
1 . The Academy Awards are popularly known as Oscar awards . This is awarded in Beverly Hills , LA , California USA .
2 . The Golden Globe Awards - They are accolades by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association , which started in January 1944 .
3 . The BAFTA Awards - They are presented on February 19th by the British Academy of Films and Television Arts .

Although the academy was founded in 1927 the first award was released between August 1st 1927 and July 31st of 1928 . Then awards in 12 categories only were actually presented on May 16th , 1929 in Hollywood at Hotel Roosevelt .

Rules - To be eligible for the award the film must be shown publicly for paid admission for a minimum of one week in a theater in LA county , California , USA between January 1st and December 31st of the same year for which award is being given . For foreign language movies it’s not necessary to be exhibited in the USA , they can be shown in their home countries .
The Academy consists of members from several branches of film production . Only members of the Academy can nominate and vote . All the Academy members nominate and vote to decide the winning candidates in most categories .
Besides international honor and prestige the award can play a major role in the success of the film at Box office and the careers of winners in major winners like - actors , actress , director etc.
The Oscar Statuette - The Oscar is a Knight standing on a reel of film and holding a sword which is credited to the MGM ( Metro Goldwyn Mayer ) director Cedric Gibbons . Earlier it was cast in Bronze with 24 Carat gold plating . Nowadays it’s made of Gold Plated Britannium .

India’s First Oscar winner - Bhanu Athaiya ( joint with a British Costume Designer John Milio ) is the first Indian to get an Oscar for Costume design in the movie “ Gandhi “ .
Altogether till 2021 , 13 Indians have been nominated for Oscars and 8 have won Oscars including Scientific and Technical Categories . This included famous Music director A.R . Rehman for his song in the movie “ Slumdog Millionaire “

This year Suriya Sivakumar is the first Tamil actor to be a member of the Academy , who has already voted .
Further Indian actress Deepika Padukone has been nominated as the presenter of Academy Awards 2023 along with other stars of international repute. Earlier Persis Khambatta and Priyanka Chopra are the other Indian actresses to get this honor .
