Forgotten Promise - 17 - A chance

I came up with a plan. It wasn’t the best plan but it was still a plan.

I knocked at the door to his room.

He opened the door and he looked a bit surprised.

“Kelvin I-we need to talk, it’s Saturday are you free today? I was thinking we could take a little walk in the park”

He put on a thinking face on “You have been avoiding me for a while now and now you want to talk?”

“w-well I wasn’t really avoiding you I mean we talked at work”

“But not at home”

I frowned fondling with my fingers.

I still felt uncomfortable around him.

Why are you making things harder?

“I understand why you want to talk... fine I am free now let’s go”

~~~
It was a silent walk to the park until Kelvin broke the silence.
“Are you still uncomfortable around me?”
“What? no” I lied.
He rose an eyebrow at me “You know it’s been years but still haven’t changed a bit”
After I left Kelvin and I still talked on the phone for three years until we lost touch with each other although sometimes he still gets mad about the fact I left without saying anything.
“I am sorry, I know things haven’t been easy for you, I know that you might be doing this to get back at me but please forgive me, I just want things to go back to normal again” I said fendling with my fingers tears threatening to fall.
Kelvin always had a hard time as a kid; he normally spent most of his time in his room until I tried to convince his mum to let him go to school with me.
He put his hand on my head “I am doing it go get back at you Alex.” We had already arrived at the park and then sat on a bench leaving a distance between us.
“If I actually wanted to get back at you do you think I would want you in my house? But I think I went a bit too far by putting your friend in the hospital, I was just annoyed that you were able to move on and I couldn’t” it was silent again.
“The police are investigating on his case, and I am still mad at you for what you did”
He frowned and rested his head on the bench looking up.
“Okay I am sorry, I wouldn’t do anything to you or your friends again and don’t worry the police wouldn’t find out it’s me”
“You have to apologise to him not me and how are you so sure that the police wouldn’t find you, what if we go back home and they are waiting for you?”
He grinned and looked at me “You still care about me, don’t you?”
“Hey don’t change the subject!”
“I am not apologising to him though he shouldn’t have been sneaking into my house in the first place, do you know he was looking for something to blackmail me with?”
“He was?”
I don’t know if I can believe him or not because that doesn’t sound like what Sam would do.
“Yes he even followed me to my room and saw some things he wasn’t supposed to see so I wanted to get rid of him, if he had just minded his business I wouldn’t have done anything to him”
I thought for a while Maybe it’s because he was curious about Kelvin after what happened in the garden that day.
I felt him lie on my lap which brought me out of my thoughts.
I was surprised “Wh-what in the world are you doing?!”
“The bench is so uncomfortable to lie on, you don’t mind right?” he stared at me.
I felt butterflies in my stomach “W-well um…aren’t you too old for this? What if someone sees us like this? I-I think you should seat back up”
“Don’t worry no one’s here we are at the park remember?”
“Ah yes I remember, b-but it feels a bit weird” I said nervously.
“Why is it weird?”
Please just get off my leg. I feel like he is just doing this to mess with me.
“Because you are not a kid anymore!” I yelled.
Dang it I didn’t mean to yell.
“I know that” he smirked.
Yep he is really messing with me.
I signed “If you don’t get off my leg I would stand up”
He face turned serious and he narrowed his eyes at me “Try it”
I felt intimidated so I just sat down like that without saying anything again.
So annoying is this not my body why is he behaving like it’s his?
After a while of silence I heard light snores.
Did he just fall asleep on top of me? I checked to see he was really asleep, I couldn’t help but stare at him.
But I wanted to ask him more questions.
I noticed he was still wearing that ruby necklace.
I was really curious about it for some reason.
I rubbed my hand through his hair.
So soft, well guess he hasn’t changed in some things.
~~~

We bought ice cream on our way home. He chose chocolate flavour while I chose vanilla.

“So how did you like the date?”

“Date? It wasn’t a date”

“It was just thinking about it” I thought about it for a while.

It did look like a date.

“So?”

I look away “Okay maybe it was”

“are you still uncomfortable around me?”He asked.

“Well no, not really, you know sometimes I just wish things would go back to the way it was, when we don’t have much to worry about, but I guess some things change with time” I said looking down at my ice cream.

“You understand what I mean right?” I asked, looking at him. He looked so sad.

I linked our hands together which made him look up in surprise.

“Hey don’t feel bad things a bound to change, but I just wanted things to change for the best”

“I know you are referring to me as the things” he said.

“Well maybe” I licked my ice cream that was dripping.

“But Alex, my feelings for you haven’t changed” he tightened his grip on my hand.

“I understand that’s why I want to give you a chance and stop avoiding you” I said with a small smile.

“A chance?”
