Browntop Millet names in different languages are Hari kangni in Hindi, Korale in Kannada, Andu Koralu in Telugu, Pala pul in Tamil, Chama pothaval in Malayalam.
Browntop millet is not only nutritious but also very delicious. The millet is gluten free and rich in essential nutrients. It is a rich source of natural fibre, when compared to other grains.
Brown top millets(Chhoti kangi) are widely grown in dry regions of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and North-central India. These millets can be grown in dry soil with little water.They are drought and heat resistant crops, and their ability to tolerate shadows distinguishes them from other crops. Brown top millet is grown extensively in the United States, Asia, Africa, Australia, and China, in addition to India.
In hilly areas, brown top millet is known to help stabilise soil erosion. Because the grass is tall, it provides a shield for slightly faster crops. The process of reseeding is very simple and easy, and the seed remains viable in the soil for years, making it an impressive regenerative food for wildlife.

Brown top millet, which goes by the scientific name Brachiaria ramosa (L.) Stapf. or Urochloa ramosa (L.) R.D. Webster, is known locally as pedda-sama and korne, and has a limited cultivation largely confined to southern India.
Brown Top Millet matures in 60-70 days, making it a very fast-growing cover crop. Because it grows so fast, it is able to grow faster than the weeds that it is being used to suppress. Millet is an ideal cover crop for soils with low moisture, low fertility, and in areas with high temperatures.
Browntop millet is high in nutrition and has high energy content.Browntop millet is one of rarest millets now. It is gluten-free, has low GI and so its consumption reduces cholesterol.
