I passed my exams with flying colours. It has been quite a journey. I am going to miss all those. College days, bunking classes, dhaba waala fun, ragging juniors, punishments, hardworking nights, our sweet home and above all Isha, Aiden and Sasha.
It's been a week since I came from Punjab. I had two weeks to stay in my home before joining Amaan's firm. He had talked about it with Fai and my parents. They were happy as it would be good to work with someone having a great experience like him. Meanwhile Rehan uncle (Amaan's dad) starts taking care of his business in Delhi. He had calmed the investors claiming that they would be played at least half the amount within a short period of time.
Amaan is totally in stress but with uncle's support he is managing it well.
He had been getting quite a few projects now in Ahmedabad. But he has not stopped his search for that traitor who had cheated him. I am worried to much extend to what he would do if he was to find him as it is really tough to suppress his anger.
Two weeks passed by quickly. My flight was scheduled at 7:30, so I got ready by 4 in the evening. I changed into a navy blue sleeveless long top and a white with red printed overcoat and a matching brown belt paired with black jeggins. I had to pack very light luggage so the packing was done early. Papa advised me to stay honest and do my work with loyalty. He never fails to guide me and always gave me a positive energy. After hugging Mom and Papa, I retired to the car along with Fai.
We talked through the journey. It was only a half an hour journey. He told me work may be hectic but I should stay strong no matter what. He teased me further saying not to fight with Amaan anymore to which I replied, " Let me see", and giggled. He bid me goodbye and after a while I boarded the plane
It had been 9 when I had reached Ahmedabad. Amaan called me to inform that he had sent a driver to pick me up and he was in a meeting. I told him not to bother but he promised he would reach home within 10. After collecting my luggage I found the driver with ease as he held up my name.
He was a friendly person. We went on talking as he was very amiable. I didn't realise that I had reached home. The simple yet beautiful pink house. It has been 9:40 by now.
I went to greet Nishu ma. She was gleaming happily. After talking for a while, she asked me to freshen up and have dinner.
I went to the same room which was allotted to me the last time to see it more decorated than before. Overall the room had become blue in colour. The bed sheet, curtains were all blue. In the side table were tiny cute show pieces. One was a little rabbit and the other a board which was written on it 'Welcome home'. Those really made me smile but what astonished me was the little tiny star lights on the ceiling which when lights are switched off greatly imitated the night sky. I loved them very much.
After freshing up I came down for dinner to be greeted by Amaan. He was in his black formal shirt and grey pants. His hair was all ruffled, dark circles around his eyes, very tired but had a smile plastered in his face. But he was looking indeed very handsome. I sat next to him, joined for dinner.
"Nishu ma, why aren't you eating?"
"I've already eaten beta. Let me know if you need anything more."
"You know what Zarah, Nishu ma's Aloo parathas are simple amazing. You will really like it."
I smiled at them and started devouring it. "It is indeed very tasty," I replied back.
After having a luscious meal we stood in the balcony. He talked about that day's projects and more about office. Even though I had wanted to stay with him a bit more ,seeing his pale eyes I told him to freshen up and sleep as it was 11 by then.
We were retiring to our respective room when he asked ,"Did you like your room? Is there anything which is uncomfortable for you?"
"Why on earth are you being so formal? By the way I liked it pretty well."
"I wasn't being formal. If there was something disturbing you, let it be. Why should I bother? and giggled.
I smiled at him and making a face said, "You meany." He bid me goodbye and told me to wake up early and also that as a boss he would be very strict. I laughed at him and went to bed.
Determined to wake up early I soon drifted off to sleep enjoying starry night view above me with a smile in my face. Tomorrow is going to be a great day for me. The day I had anticipated the most, my dream profession coming true.
By 5 in the morning I woke up and had a shower. After prayer, I went downstairs, had breakfast and changed into a white top with yellow and green prints along with a green wide leg palazzo. I paired it with my wristwatch and glanced at the mirror. I had a formal look now. My red pendant was peeping out. I smiled and hid it under my scarf.
I came down and greeted Amaan who was in his Navy blue stripe 2 piece double breasted style suit. His hair in a side part style and beard still stubble but had grown a bit more. It was for the first time I had seen him in such a professional attire. I stared at him for a while.
Interrupting me he asked, "Liked what you saw?" and smirked at me.
I replied, "Who do you think you are? It's just that I wondered you do know how to dress well."
"I don't have enough time to argue otherwise I wouldn't have let off easily."
I laughed at him and we entered the car. His driver started driving while he said, "I thought I would have to give you a lesson about dressing formally. But I think it is not required. You look great."
"I never fail to disappoint you, Shahi."
He smiled at me.
It was just a 30 minute drive. When we reached the office, he went first as he did not want his employees to feel impartial. That was Amaan, he was always strict when it comes to work. I don't expect any partiality at all as that was what I needed too.
The office was indeed splendid. I looked with awe and observed the ceilings, lightings and the interior, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see a young man in a sky blue formal shirt. He smiled at me and asked, "Are you the new employee?"
"Yes, I was just having a glance through the office."
"Anyone would. Isn't it pretty? Are you an interior designer. Myself Roy."
"Yes just graduated. I am Zarah."
We shook hands and he guided me to the second floor where I would be having my place. He was friendly but in a formal way. All of them had a serious look in their face, while me being cheerful all the while. He asked me, "Do you smile all the time?" I laughed at his question and asked why they don't. He replied that the boss was very strict that they feared him. He would always hold a serious look.
"Grumpy head is still grumpy."I murmured.
"Did you say something?" He asked.
"No, I was just saying that I have heard is very serious about work."
He introduced me to everyone. There must be a total of 40 employees. They all were very amiable. The working atmosphere was good indeed.
Roy was Amaan's secretary. He came after a while and said, "Sir is calling you, Zarah."
I followed him to his cabin. It was a glass cabin and in fact he had his grumpy face intact. I felt like teasing him but I controlled all the while.
"It's a pleasure to have you in our company, Zarah."
"Thank you sir", I played along. He had a smile on his face. "This is Roy, my secretary. If you need anything, he will assist you. And also we have workshop within an hour. It will be easier if you attend it."
"Sure sir."
"You may leave now."
I left the cabin with Roy who was looking a little shocked.
I said, "You told me that he was so serious and all. But look at him smiling, he indeed has an amiable personality."
"I don't know what happened to Sir. But I haven't seen him smiling unless his friend, Navi sir comes."
I laughed at him and went to my place. The workshop did really help me. I utilised most of the doubt clearing session.
Roy was there all along to assist me. With his help I learned many things like making portfolios and listing.
Within a week I was all set. I started working on a new project all by myself and went to Roy only when I had a doubt. It was a Friday. The next day was an off. After completing the project and submitting it to Amaan, I said as Roy wasn't there, " Will Sir be available this evening after office?"
"And why is it so?"
"I have been longing to take you to a place."
"Is it a surprise? "
"Of course it is."
"I am okay then."
I said, "I have one condition."
"I was waiting for this. And it is?"
"I will drive."
"So you have been longing to take me to grave?"
I chuckled at him.
"You will know later. And why don't you smile often?"
"Because I love being grumpy."he replied smirking at me.
