All of you spend your time in life acting out 3 different roles viz.
What you think you are.
What others know you as. How would your family, friends, acquaintances describe you as?
How the above groups physically view you as?
What you project yourself to be.
LOST AMONGST THE ABOVE THREE IS THE REAL YOU.
You spend 60 - 70 % time in thinking how you will project yourself to society. You spend 20 - 30 % time in worrying what the society thinks of you. Finally you spend only 10 % time in giving a thought to what
you really are / what you think you are.
The most influential person in your life. There is a person with whom you spend more time than any other person. A person who has more
influence over your growth than any other person. This ever present companion is your own self.
These self-guides you, belittle you or support you. You engage this person
in an ever-constant dialogue a dialogue through which you set goals
for yourself, make decisions, and feel pleased, dejected or despondent.
In short, your behaviour, your feelings, your sense of self-esteem and
even your level of stress are influenced by your inner speech. The professional person is an individual who has come to terms with his own
self, one who has learnt to control his emotions responses, fears, frustrations, anxieties and moods. Success depends on mental and emotional factors, which require specific thinking and self-management skills.
Your inner coach :
For a moment think about the best coach, teacher or counselor you have
ever known. Think of someone who knew just what to say to guide encourage and motivate you and help you bounceback from disappointments. Once this inner coach knows how to influence you positively, key words will quickly trigger the attitude and feelings you need.
Therefore there is a need for introsoection and analysis of what you really are.
What are your strengths & weaknesses, what opportunities you can grab because
of your strengths and what are the threats you may face due to your weaknesses.
Sow an act and reap a habit.
Sow a habit and you reap character
Sow a character and you reap destiny.
The ten most wanted emotions :
Friendliness and liking people.
Enthusiasm about work.
High energy level
Enjoying what you do.
Confidence and optimism.
Feeling of being in control.
Relaxed alertness and concentration.
Feeling of wanting to help people and
provide service.
Inner desire to persist succeeds and excels.
Openness and non-defensive attitude towards feedback, criticism and new information.
"Best be your self, imperial plain & true". - Robert Browning
Perhaps you feel a little more uncomfortable after reading these questions. You may also feel that developing oneself is such a difficult task
that one had better not attempt it at all. Don't worry. These are initial difficulties. You have to get over them and emerge as a developing youth.
Perseverance in self-development is the foundation for a successful adult life.
At this stage of your life you could build lasting relationships. School College time friendships and associations last a lifetime. Your teachers,
fellow, great people whom you come across now and then, writers, thinkers and the like inspire you to work hard for development. It is indeed a blessing to the adolescent age that anything is exciting at the sensor level. But you must develop level headedness to know yourself change and work for your future. Such an effort will ensure a smooth change from teenage to adulthood. So know yourself first.
