Hello friends!
Last month I had a discussion with my students related to the use of plastic. We were discussing whether the plastic should be banned or not? How much plastic is useful and how much it is harmful! We know well that so many things are that which can not be possible to hold without using plastic and contrary so many things are there which can be easily carried with another eco friendly materials also. Finally, what we discussed I am sharing with you all. I am sure you all will like this article.
Pollution - the biggest problem all over the world. Whether it is the Australian bush fires or the jam packed roads of mega cities of India, pollution is everyone. There are so many types of pollutions like air pollution, water pollution, noice pollution, dust pollution, waste pollution and many more.
It's difficult to decide which pollution is more dangerous. Nowadays people are using plastic in their routine life. No doubt the plastic bags are very much useful during traveling or during rainy season. Our plates, bowls, bags, jars, spoons, table, chair, stationary items, in short so many useful things are made by using the plastic. it's easy to clean and saves our things by getting dirty. From plastic water or oil can not pass, so it's useful to carry lunch boxes. Also due to this property it's useful to keep some important documents safely. Plastic helps to prevent the things by getting wet and sometimes to the human beings also in form of the umbrella and raincoat during rainy days. The medicines kept in the plastic wraps or in a plastic bottle. But due to unawareness of its disposal process people are polluting the earth.
Plastic bags cause major economical and environmental issues. The most general issue with plastic bags is the amount of waste produced. Many plastic bags are not recycled and they end up on streets and subsequently pollute major water sources, rivers, and streams. Plastic takes many years to decompose even when it is disposed of properly. Discarded bags have polluted waterways, clogged sewers, and been found in oceans, affecting the ecosystem of marine creatures. The UN estimates that there will be more plastics than fish in the oceans by 2050 unless the other countries come up with effective measures to promote waste management of plastics.
The companies and the people are throwing their plastic bags here and there without caring it's side effects. These plastic bags affects not only the marine creatures but also the wildlife. Animals often mistook plastic for food and when they eat it the plastic bags cause the problem of indigestion. Many animals die because of this. Even the layers of earth are also blocked by the plastic waste. The earth is not able to absorb the water, and because of this in future the water scarcity to be faced.
Plastic bags can also block drains, traps birds. Sometimes cows, dogs, Buffaloes or any other animal eat plastic with their food and definitely it's damages their digestive system. Sometimes animal dies due to plastic in its stomach.
The WWF for nature has estimated that over 100,000 whales, seals, and turtles die every year. In India, an estimated number of 20 cows die per day as a result of ingesting plastic bags. In Africa, the clogged plastic bags lead to an increase in malaria disease. The term “white pollution” has been coined in China to describe the local and global effects of discarded plastic bags upon the environment. Lightweight plastic bags are also blown to trees and other plants can be mistaken for fwa
Plastic bags break down by polymer degradation and as a result when someone burns the plastic harmful toxins are released into the air. Many of those toxins directly affect the endocrine systems of organisms, which control almost every cell in the body. Currently, in India, there is only one law that is in place- No manufacturer or vendor can use a plastic bag that is below 50 microns. The usage of plastic bags is still high as the ban is not implemented on all plastic bags The usage of plastic bags can only be solved by producing an effective alternative.
Recently scientists are working on finding the alternative of plastic. They have invented the plastic which can be easily disposable in water, but it is on the trial basis. To avoid the pollution by plastic, scientists are trying to recycle the plastic and take it for reuse. Few scientists made plastic road also on the trial bases. If such inventions become succes then we can save the earth from pollution and at low cost we can make the proper roads also.
So, finally it is clear that until the proper alternative of plastic is not found or any proper process to recycle the plastic or to vanish the plastic waste is not found plastic should be banned especially for the routine life. For companies or research centres plastic is necessary at some level. So the use of plastic should be restricted upto these areas only, that is also with the condition that thay will not throw it anywhere which causes pollution or become the life ending material for the any living being.
SAY NO TO PLASTIC TO SAVE THE EARTH AND TO SAVE THE ANIMALS.
