King Dahir
Sindh was one of the most prosperous states of United India. It was ruled by a Brahmin King Dahir. Neghbour state, Arab was very jealous to the prosperity of Sindh. Mircashim, a seppy of Arab Caliphates attacked over Sindh in early eight century. It was the first Islamic invasion over India. A firce battle took place between King Dahir and Mircashim and their sepoys. A large number of Mircashim soldiers were killed in the battle. Of course there were some casualties to Dahir side too, but its number was very few. Mircashim was forced to retreat back.
However, the wealth of Sindh had lured the Caliphates, particularly to Hajjaj. Hajjaj re organised his army under Mircashim and attacked over Sindh. Mircashim was repeatedly defeated by king Dahir.
Hajjaj planned fourteenth attack over Sindh. This time Mircashim lured the local tribes and got their support fraudulently. Their support added a new energy among the soilders of Mircashim. This time Mircashim soilders were more big than Dahir. Cashim attacked over Sindh in the dark night. Indian kings used to follow certain ethics in battle too. They never fought in the night. The battle usually took place in the day only. A sudden attack could not loose the vigour of Dahir. Dahir fought bravely. Cashim asked King Dahir to surrender before him. But Dahir preferred the battle. A firce battle held between the two sides. Dahir told to his subjects before marching to the battle field-
"I am going to meets the Arabs in the open and unholy battle and fight them as best as I can. If I crush them, my kingdom will then be put on a firm footing. But if I killed honourably, then event would be recorded in Indian History and would be talked about by great men. It will be heared by other kings in the world and it will be said that King Dahir of Sindh sacrificed his precocious life for the sake of his country, in fighting with the enemy."
King Dahir bravery once more pushed Mircashim to the wall. This time Mircashim wanted to own the battle by hook and crook. He encouraged his skipping soulders in the name of Jihad. His soilders bounced back and fought with Dahir. It was late night. There was a zero visibility in the battle field. A few soilders of Mircashim took the advantage of dark and attacked Dahir from behind. King Dahir was martyred and his name had been recorded
as first freedom fighter of India.
After the death of Dahir, his wife too fought but could not stand more. She was too killed in the battle.
Tthis is to be noted that Islamic invaders could not dare to attack over India almost next two centuries. The credit goes to the great son of mother India, king Dahir.
The story of King Dahir teaches us that we must be ready to sacrifice everything for mother India. Secondly, we must be cautious with our enemy neighbours. We should never fall in the trap of enemy. At the same time we should be vigilant with our internal people who works with our enemies.
