UGC NET is one of the most sought after examination for graduates in India. The exam is conducted for the post of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship. As per the Government of India, qualifying NET exam is the eligibility criteria for getting the post of assistant professor in Government universities and colleges. The exam has a passing rate of merely 6% which makes it one of the toughest examinations in India. The exam which was conducted by CBSE earlier is now conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) and therefore the exam has come to be known as NTA-UGC-NET. Syllabus: The exam consists of two papers, namely paper 1 and paper 2. The first paper is of an hour while the second paper is of two hours duration. The first paper covers aptitude topics such as data interpretation, reading comprehension and research aptitude. You need to be clear about what is expected out of you in terms of knowledge. The second paper is subject oriented. A total of 100 subjects are listed on the NET website. Each subject has its own detailed syllabi. For example the paper of political science covers chapters from political thoughts and theories comparative political analysis and international relations. Indian political thought concept, its foreign policy and political institutions are also a part of political science syllabus. The syllabus is quite extensive but you need to understand what is exactly required out of the examinee in order to excel the subject.
Solve previous year papers: Solving previous year papers will help you understand the pattern of the paper, The expectation that I was talking to you about in the previous point can be understood properly when you go through previous year papers in detail. It also helps you build confidence and understand each and every syllabus. Not to forget it also tests your knowledge and lets you know your areas of weaknesses. Make sure to solve at least one previous year paper each week to maintain the flow and build your confidence level.
Time schedule: You need to decide as to when do you want to start preparing for your exam and what outcome do you expect. Normally it is recommended that you start studying for the exam 3 to 6 months prior to your exam. You should plan out the entire schedule and study accordingly.
