BODY LANGUAGE TRICKS TO MAKE PEOPLE LIKE YOU

Body language is the unconscious or conscious actions of any person used to react to any situation and express the behavior or mood of the person. The actions are generally instinctive and in very less casesdeliberate. Actions may include facial expressions, postures, hand gestures and many more.

Body language is one of the most important aspects of personality and one’s body language can greatly impact his/her image in front of others without even speaking a single word. In other words, body language is the layout in which a person’s image is built in another person’s mind. Having a negative body language will make people unsocial and unlikable and other people uncomfortable whereas having a positive body makes a person instantaneously likable and social.

These are some common tricks which a person can improve in his/her body language to be more appealing/ likable to others-

· Relax-The first and foremost trick is to relax. No one likes a tensed person. Take a deep breath and stay calm & composed. Staying calm also gives an opportunity to talk freely and take decisions wisely.

· Smile- Always smile because it gives an indication of good mood and behavior but also don’t overdo it.

· Have a firm posture- Always stand or sit upright and don’t slouch. Slouching gives an indication of a disinterested or a lazy person.

· Avoid folding your hands and always keep your hands by your side.

· Have a firm handshake- Always have a firm handshake as it signifies that you are sincere and interested.

· Maintain eye contact- Whenever conversing with other people, always try to maintain an eye contact as it shows that you are sincere and engaged but also try not to make it awkward .

· Use open hand gestures- During public speaking, try to use hand gestures to complement your views but also do not completely rely on them.

· Have a positive posture- During public speaking, Stand upright and lean slightly forward so as to take other people in confidence and to gain their attention.

· Look interested-In any interview or during negotiation, look interested by leaning forward but also avoid touching your face frequently and maintain eye contact.

· Mirroring- Try to match your body language with whom you are talking to but don’t imitate. This helps to build a good rapport with the other person and makes you likable and friendly.

· Avoid fidgeting- If a person is very fidgety (i.e., moving a lot) during conversations, it gives an indication of anxious behavior, nervousness or unfriendly behavior.

· Avoid closing your hands & legs- Don’t cross your hands or legs during conversations. It signifies defensive behavior and deters others from approaching you. Instead keep your feet pointed towards others so as to appear sincere and engaged.

· Compliment others- Complimenting others will make others feel good about themselves and help in making them comfortable around you. Just try not to overdo it as it will make you seem like a fake or a creepy person.
