Author: Rajnarayan Bohre

Mridang has a different importance in classical music. When there is a discussion of mridang in Indian music, it is incomplete without the name of Kudusinhji. Kudusinhaji has described the best phase of his life in Datia. The "Parane" pakhawaj treasured by him is said to be very rare and enchanting paran.

Less material highlighting Kudusinji's life introduction is received, yet the investigative journalist of Datia, Late Shri Babulal Ji Goswami, worked very hard to gather some evidence in this regard, from which coffee gives some information about his life discussion. Sadly, that book of Goswami Ji remained incomplete and unpublished. Self Harimohan Lal Srivasta also made some discoveries in this regard. The musician scholar of Datia, Mr. Mahesh Mishra Madhukar has also done a lot of research about Kudusinhji.

According to the information received from the total priest family of Kudusinhji, Kudau, born in Kanyugubj family, was born on Magh Shukla 8 Samvat 1872 in the city of Banda. His father's name was Gappay and he was also a good musician. Frustrated due to the untimely death of his father, he wandered to the feet of Mridangacharya Baba Shri Das, who began to take his education. In those days, mridang or paranavat was such a respected instrument which was very respected in the court.

He got out of tourism after mastering from his ears here in Mridang. He played mridang in the court of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Lucknow and received enough respect. After the British took control of Awadh, Kudusinji went to Jaipur and returned there and reached the court of Rampur Nawab. Where he won the Raj Samman by winning in an irrepressible musical faithfulness from Sursingar player Hussain Khan. Later, upset by the bad behavior of the defeated Hussain Khan, he left Rampur and went to the Rewa court. Rewa Naresh Vishwanath Singh himself was a music lover knowledgeable to the art of writing and had created a unique paran to test the mridang player. She was a very difficult person. When Kudousinh ji got the chance and heard him playing sang Sangopang, Maharaj Vishwanath Singh was speechless and he gave the prize of Sawalakh Rajan Mudrao to Kridausingh for this Mridangan song. Similarly, at another paran she also got the award of twelve thousand Mujshahi Mudras and she was known as "Barah Jahazari" Paran.

The details of why Kudusinji came suddenly from Rewa court, but he came from there and stayed with Maharaja Gangadhar Rao in Jhansi court. After the death of Maharaja, he continued to live in Jhansi due to the loving behavior of Rani Laxmibai. Kudau ji was also taken captive along with the Jhansi royal family for participating in the freedom struggle of 1857. Maharaj Bhavani Singh of Datia rescued him from the British on his bail and Kudou was also taken captive since he brought him to Datia. Maharaja Bhavani Singh Ji of Datia rescued him from the British on his bail and since he brought him to Datia, Kudusinhji was wearing an iron chain in one of his feet symbolically. When asked, I used to say that I am a prisoner of King Baba.

During his stay in Datia, he had an accompaniment to Narayan Shastri, the then Dhuprad singer of the Gwalior court. Datia Naresh Maharaj Bhavani Singh gave Kudau ji the title of Singh and he started from Kudau Pandit called Kudusinh.

Kudusinji's personality was very impressive. He was the ardent bahu of the highest whole Gaur varna. He wore yellow kurta and tahmad till the knees. By wearing Bachdharma on the forehead, the image used to be very big. He had only one wife in his family besides a daughter. He was very fond of raising bulbul.

Initially from the Datia Durbar, he used to get Panchakta i.e. two and a half instincts daily, which later increased to 32 coming i.e. two rupees.

Once Rao Sahib came in pungency on something about Janki Prasad, Kudusinhji had left for Samathar with the condition of receiving the award from Samthar Naresh. Kudusinha went to Samather and asked for permission to enter the king's court and started waiting.

There was a belief about Samathar Naresh that he is very miserly. So even after getting the news of Kudusinh's arrival, he did not invite Kudusinh to the court, but he got angry with him for reaching without invitation, one day he was called Mahavat, calling his royal elephant's mammon elephant Ganesh Gaja to Kudusinh. Pushed towards the ashram site. It is said that Kudusinh Kadai did not get upset after seeing the elephant coming, he started playing "Gajadharan" on the mridang with patience. The elephant was surprised by the magic effect of Gajaparan, Janak Naresh heard this, pleased with the miracle of Kudusinh, return to Datia, once he became famous in Calcutta, after knowing that he was proud of the pride and advised King Bhavani Singh, that Kudusinh revolted Datia, only for several days in the guest house. Pausing, she was given daily hard work and a silent silence, after which she withdrew her contemptuous words to the self-respecting king of a small princely state like Datia and was preached to them.

Kudousinghji remained Datia till the last time and kept practicing all his paranas to his disciples. Even today his style is known as Kudusinha specific style of Pavaj playing.

Parvati's right side of Parvati and the right side is considered to be the symbol of Shiva, Kudusinh became Pakhawaj Singh. He had chosen two big mridangs named Sawan-Bhado to play for himself. The length of the sawn was 22 inches and the diameter of the edges was 7, while the other was 30 inches in length and the middle blue was 16 inches. Both had mouths of 10 and 9 inches. Unfortunately, both the Kudusinh government got Vindhyapradesh government after the Mridang Swadhinata, along with other goods, was also auctioned on 18 January 49 at Datia for only Rs.

Once Kudusinh was confronted by Bengali pakhawaj player Kanchan in Datia court, all the audience including Kanchan were stunned by the memory of Kudusinh, because Kanchan had played a difficult sound, although that day he heard it for the first time.

Kudusinh is said to have invented about a thousand paranas. Due to the help of dowry in the daughter's marriage, she donated all the paranas. Musicians still have a reputation for dowry.

Baba Pagadas of Faizabad is very famous as a pakhavaj player of Kudusinh style and he is trying to promote Kudusinh style. Today, however, there is no widely known fortnight in Karma Singh's Karma Datia. But the name of Datia is taken with full respect by Pakhawaj players. Kudusinh has got this honor in Dajiya Nagar.

There are many legends and stories about Kudusinh. Some say that while listening to the animals they had handed over, the Pakhawaj was silently listening to the sound of the Pakhawaj being played by his Guru brothers. There is also a legend of Chaulpur. It is said that once upon a crime of beating the courtier of Chholpur King, Kudusinh was imprisoned. There he practiced pakhawaj by playing stones in the prison walls. On the same day, a Pakhawaji who came from outside, swung in pride after defeating all the fortnight of the Chaulpur court and considered himself very worthy. Kudusinh's fame reached the king through the prison guards, and he defeated Kudusinh by calling him Kudusinh. Due to this factor, he himself was freed and spread the fame of the Chaulpur court.

The name of Kudusinh is so associated with Pakhawaj Badan that they will not be forgotten by the time the sound of Pakhawaj is heard.
