I was preparing myself lunch, with Miranda helping me to do it since Edward didn't want me to get into another trouble again. I switched on the TV, changed the channels and settled on watching 'Big Bang Theory', my favourite show from my college days.
I was devouring my food which mainly consisted of carbs when my phone vibrated. I swiped it on call, not seeing the caller ID while still chewing my lunch.
"Where is Edward, dear?"
The voice was so slow and intimidating that I was about to scream when I took hold of my phone after wiping my hands and putting it over my ear. It was Mom. Edward's Mom.
Oh hell!
"Good afternoon mom. How are you? I heard you went to India for relaxing. You were always a fan of yoga! So how was your journey there? Did you make some new friends? How is dad? Is his diabetes still over control?" I blabbered, as usual, trying to hide my surprise.
"Honey, everything is fine. Yes my journey was great and I did make friends there and your dad is as fine as a flower. Now back to my question, where is Edward?"
"Mom, he went just hours ago to his meeting saying he wouldn't be free till evening."
"Oh yes? I am sure my eyes were working properly when I saw him in the mall, shopping with Lara!"
Say what?
That idiot! I told him not to wander around with her in public places!
"Oh mom, Edward must be with his secretary now! I am sure you have misunderstood. We are in good terms and he broke up with Lara a long time ago-"
"But dear, I am sure he was with her-"
"No way, Mom! In fact, today he is going to take me on a date to celebrate the success of that international deal which he had been wanting for so long. Mom, he loves me all day and night that even I am not able to keep track of time. I am very much happy so don't doubt his love again!"
That was not too much, right?
"Yes dear, if you say so but still-"
"No buts, Mom. I don't have much time to get ready for this special occasion. So bye and take care," I hung up quickly only to dial again, this time another number.
"What the hell, Edward?! I told you not to go anywhere in public with Lara!" I barked at him.
Seriously, I was working too hard to keep this fake marriage thing and here he was busy doing things his way!
"Whoa! Wait, what? Are you stalking me now? Like seriously-"
"Oh shut the fucking hell up and evacuate immediately with Lara from that freakish mall and go somewhere safe-"
"Wait, why-"
"Your Mom! She saw you shopping with Lara. Seriously, Edward once you get home, I'll make sure you'll be eating food with your legs for the rest of your life!" I yelled hanging up and throwing my cell on my sofa rather harshly.
My mind was in chaos. I suddenly felt the need to get a cold long shower. When I was preparing my clothes to wear, I heard the doorbell ring. I ignored it and went to take my toiletries from the cupboard.
"Oh dear, you don't think you're wearing these on your special night, right?" someone said quietly behind me and I screamed bloody murder at the creepiness of the sound.
I turned around to see my mom standing in front of the bedroom door, her hands gripping my shirt.
I looked at her confused. Was she going to come or did I really start to get early symptoms of Alzheimer of forgetting things easily?
"There is no way I am letting her wear these, Elena!" Edward's mom said, taking the shirt from my mom's hand and throwing it in the dustbin. It fell beside it! Hah!
Wait, why they both are here again?
"Girls, this is Emily, my daughter-in-law and Elena's daughter. I'll leave her to your courtesy now!"
Just then I saw two girls, one with blue eyes and long straight hair and other with brown eyes and blonde hair, dragging me somewhere which felt like a parlour!
Wait, I had a parlour at my house and I didn't even know about it!
I felt someone lifting my hair, putting some machine over them, my mind still in waters to comprehend what the hell was actually happening when the brown haired girl poured hot wax over my legs. I screamed in pain closing my eyes.
This was torture! Pure torture!
I really hated waxing. I would never forget the pain I had to go through when my mom pushed me into the parlour to have wax before my wedding and I cursed maybe all generations of the Jones family for my unbearable pain.
"Don't scream this loud, ma'am. We still have a lot to do with you!"
Wait, what?
After going through hours long of waxing, shadowing and I don't know, whatever it was, the blonde slid white pair of heels on my side to wear.
These heels are higher than my future!
I was still worried about Edward as I didn't get to speak a word about this whole date thing to him so when I saw two girls discussing my outfit for the night, I excused myself and rushed to the washroom with the speed of light.
He wasn't picking up and I was getting impatient. When he picked up finally, I was relieved.
"Edward! We have an emergency!"
"What happened, Emi? Are you hurt somewhere again-"
"Ma'am, we're ready with your outfit. Madam asked us not to let you go anywhere with your phone so we're afraid we might have to invade your privacy."
Just then, I heard the washroom door open and my eyes widened in surprise and shock. My phone slipped out of my hand so fast that I nearly lost my balance and was about to faceplant the floor.
When the fucking hell did they get a double key for my washroom door?
I came out grudgingly, glaring at the two girls who were way too much professional with their work. I nodded meekly to all their instructions, trying any outfit they made me slip into.
After two hours of continuous hard work, I was all ready, sitting on the bed with the girls decided on the type of bag I would carry. I rolled my eyes at them.
They're making being girls too harder than it already was!
Hearing the doorbell ring, I quickly rushed to open the door when I was pulled back by those rude girls (again, might I add) back to my room.
I glared at them, gripping the floral bed sheet with my fingers. I was afraid that our moms might discover the truth if Edward came home with Lara!
"You're not supposed to run in this dress, ma'am. We're afraid you might fall and hurt yourself!"
Yeah, yeah. I understand!
I was getting impatient by now, tapping my heels on the ground, my ears raised to hear any commotion that he might cause.
After a minute or two I heard some noise downstairs. I rushed in spite of their warning, my pace little slow with these pencil heels.
"Edward! How much I missed you. I was afraid I might die of waiting. Dear, you're late!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, my eyes signalling him to play along which I am sure he missed cause he was too busy scanning my body.
His mouth hung low open, his eyes widening a little and suddenly I felt too conscious of my body, covering my chest with my purse. I ran towards him, wrapping my arms around his neck, hearing his breath get hitched.
I was wearing a blue mini dress, zipped from my back, my brown hair curled at the bottom with a slight tinge of sparkles. I didn't know much about makeup except for they had applied some rosy blush over my already flushed cheeks, eyeliner and mascara were mandatory, according to them, and they had gone with a peach coloured lipstick. I had matching bangle bracelet for my dress, which complimented my purse.
"Don't speak a word. Our moms are here to watch us," I whispered in Edward's ear.
"What?"
"I don't know but when your mom called me about you being with Lara, I told her that you were going to take me on a date tonight to celebrate your deal!" I blurted out and his grip tightened on my waist.
"So what am I supposed to do now?"
"I don't know! You take the lead from here. I have had enough with your plans! And please let me kill you once we get this over with!"
"Don't worry. Here," he extended his arm in a gentleman-ly way.
"Shall we?"
"Oh, we shall."
I smiled taking his arm, resting my head on his shoulder while walking over to his car. He draped his coat over my shoulders, his arms wrapped protectively around me once we were in the car.
"Don't want anyone looking at you like a hawk! But did I tell you that you look unbelievably beautiful and hot today? Man, I thought once for a moment that you were someone else!"
I blushed at his compliment. I didn't know what else had to come to confront our unwavering friendship but for once, I was happy because I had this beautiful moment of my evening to spend with Edward, my unrequited love while enjoying my first date with him!
