The short suspense stories - 2 - The Murderer part 1

"I will tell the truth, only truth & nothing but the truth."

The last witness removed his hand from holy book, & quickly reseated himself. Looking around at the old courtroom in New york, he swallowed stiffly & tried to expell the nervousness from his face.

Today was a big day! At last, that beast of a man would be long gone. his eyes slid to the left, towards the accused.

The massive, well buid figure could give anyone a scare of a lifetime. Steve had proved again & again that it would not wise to take him on. Even the 4 guards there stand with him stood as far as possible from him.

The witness jumped in surprise as that large figure with a beard caught his eye. Some sort of growling noise came from his throat. The witness knew It was smart enough to look some where else now.

The witness listened to the defendent's lawyer finishing his case. With a solid alibi, a reliable witness & a good lawyer , it was looking like Steve will manage to get free. But The witness knew that evidence can not be hide for that long. He watched with a sweaty hands as the prosecutor stood to present the opposing counsel.

"You honor, here I have some evidence you might want to see. This was taken from the scene." He held up a small plastic bag, and even though the witness knew what it was, he could feel himself leaning forward with anticipation.

"It is a single hair, matching Steve perfectly. Several DNA tests were run on this object & all came back positive." The lawyer took a few seconds for a dramatic pause & then placed a bag on the table.

"To further aid my case, this is the photograph here of a victim's body. now just like all other cases, an earring is missing from her right ear. Thinking back to the numerous cold blooded murders that scared this town in last 6 months, you will see that it's one of the same." with showing some other photographs, the lawyer said.

"Notice that in each case with these unique circumstances, Steve has become a prime suspect in each case."

The witness felt change in the air. The hope that this would be the day that Steve kent was finally caught!! He waited on the edge of his seat, anxious to deliver a killing blow. The prosecutor turned & gestured toward this eager man.

"I call my witness, John roberts, to the stand."

The man stood, & shakily walked to the front of the room, promising yet again to tell the whole truth & nothing but the truth. he daced his audience.

"Mr. Roberts, Did you or did you not see the defendent breaking into the victim's home on the night of Sunday, April 6?"

The witness swallowed.

"Yes, I did."

"And would you mind telling us in detail, exactly what you saw that day?"

The witness faught to control his racing heart. Finally he was going to put his monster into the prison for good.

"I will. I was sitting by the window in my living room. that window faces on the side of victim's house as i live across the street from victim's house. It was around 11 o'clock in tje night when I heard what it sounded like glass shattering." The witness paused ensuring that the jury was hanging on to his words. The room remained silent.

"I looked up from my book & saw Steve the defendent turned his face towards me. I saw his face clearly, and then he turned & pushed himself through that broken window." The lawyer, pleased with his account, walked towards him.

"Do you have any proof of this events?"

The witness paused for a bit & said:

" Proof more than fingerprints, my eyewitness & the hair you found?? yes sir, I have all the footage from my home security camera. It captured everything."

The recording was played on a small screen hanged to a wall. All the people watched as the clear figure of Steve kent smashed his way to his girlfriend's home. The lawyer turned towards the judge & said...

" I rest my case.".... .
