FAMILY TROUBLES - 1

A chubby woman is wandering here and there. She has worn a satin nighty. It is a small 8 X 8 feet room. There is a big armchair in the center of the room. Besides, there is a small tea table next to the armchair. Against the back wall, a long rope with full of clothes is hanging. It is a drawing-room. It seems to be the rainy season and because of this, the chubby woman dries the washing clothes in the room.

She looks at the wall clock every other minute. She seems to be worried about someone. Her hair is loose. She is good looking. She has worn gold earrings and gold bangles.

On the right side of this drawing-room, there is another room. It is their bedroom. On the left side, it is their kitchen.

Wife: He is always late. What the hell is he doing now? It is 10 o'clock. Yet he has not come. Let him come today.
She wanders again. After a moment, someone knocks at the door.

Wife: I think he has come.

She runs towards the main door of the room. She opens the door. A middle-aged man enters the room. He is tired. He is worried. He has worn a black coat and grey trousers with a striped tie. He has a lean body. His chin has been covered with a stubble beard. Even, he has a short moustache. But if we look at his head, in its back, plenty of hair is there. But in front, there are a few strands of hair. He is slightly effeminate.

Wife: Why are you late today?

Husband: There is extreme pressure in my office.

Wife: Who is giving you the pressure. Your boss or someone else.

Husband: No, it's you.

Wife: What did you say?

Husband: Uff! Nothing.

Wife: Ok, now take off your office suit and eat.

Husband: Is there nothing to eat except for my office suit?

Wife: Don't try to be smart. My head is burning.

Husband: That's why I am feeling extremely hot in the room.

Wife: What did you say? Say it again.

Husband: Nothing. Please bring me a cup of tea. I am so tired.

Wife: Ramu, Ramu..........

Ramu: (from behind) I'm just coming Ginni Ma.

Wife: Day by day, he (Ramu) is becoming like his Babu (master). A nonsense donkey.

Husband: What did you say?

Wife: I am just joking.

Ramu enters the room. He looks like 26 years old. He has worn a grey vest with black edge and striped Bermuda shorts. He has also worn a blue apron. He is of short height. He has pixie cut hair.

Ramu: What happened, Ginni Ma?

Wife: Where have you been? Can't you hear me?

Ramu: Sorry. Don't get angry with me.

Ramu pretends like he is going to cry. Wife wipes his tears and gently brushes his hair with her fingers. She cares for him as her son.

Wife: Ok, no problem, now go and make tea for your Babu. He has returned home after having conquered the world!

Meanwhile, the husband is about to take off his coat but after hearing the teasing sentence from his wife, he stops and looks at his wife.

Husband: What do you mean by that?

At the moment when the wife is about to reply to his husband, Ramu, the servant interferes. He talks to his Babu.

Ramu: Babu, may I ask you a question?

Husband now turns to Ramu. He takes off his coat and sits in the armchair.

Husband: Ask.

Ramu starts massaging his master's right hand and says.

Ramu: Babu, I heard that riding on a donkey is a very funny experience. Is that right?

He throws Ramu's hand away and stands up.

Husband: (angrily) How can I know? You fool! Always talk rubbish. Get out of my sight.

Ramu: Ok, I am going.

Ramu leaves the room by running.

Wife busts out in laughter after hearing Ramu's peculiar question.

Husband: (looking at his wife) It is you. You are pampering him. Now, he needs to ride on a donkey.

Wife: That is great! Why don't you make him ride on your back?

She giggles. Husband gets furious.

Husband: (angrily) What! Am I a donkey?

Wife understands that her husband has got furious. She stops giggling.

Wife: Let me bring a cup of tea for Babu.

Wife leaves the room.

Husband: She is dangerous. Why did I marry with such a quarrelsome lady? Everyone told me not to marry her. It was my friend, Bimal who misled me.

The husband looks at the audience and starts his monologue.

Husband: Do you know? I had a best friend, Nawab. We had met in class four. From then we became made for each other. We used to hang out together in many places bunking off the school. I enjoyed his company. After completing our master degrees in college, we together searched for a good job. We got our respective jobs in different cities.

Whenever we got our day off from work, we used to prefer to hang out in many places. According to others, our relationship was supposed to be a different sexual orientation. They considered us as homosexuals. I could not make them understand that some relations cannot be categorised.

This news reached to my parents. My mother forced me to get married as soon as possible. Otherwise, she would start starvation. Nawab also faced difficulties from his religion. He was threatened to be murdered by Muslim fundamentalists. We consequently decided to stay unconnected.

In this situation, our common friend, Bimal took all the responsibility as a matchmaker and introduced her (now my wife) to me. I reluctantly got married. People say that the best night is their wedding nights. But I spent my whole wedding night by weeping for him.

Tears come out from his eyes. He wipes his tears and sits in the nearby armchair. He starts reading a newspaper. After almost fifteen minutes wait, he looks at the kitchen.

Husband: Hello! So, when will I get my tea?

Wife: (from behind) Keep waiting. I'm coming in five minutes.

He continues his reading. Another fifteen minutes pass. Husband now looks at the kitchen again.

Husband: How long will it take!

Wife: (from the kitchen) I told you. I'm coming in five minutes.

This time, the husband feels irritating.

Husband: (throwing the newspaper away) I'm waiting here for more than thirty minutes but your five minutes never end.

He looks at the audience again.
