As we sow, so we reap #gandhigiri
Ajay and Vijay were friends and owners of the companies run by them. Ajay always complained that employees are coming late. He was a very fastidious and orthodox boss. Always complaining and frustrated. He stuck to age old stance. Employees also did not feel like either coming to office or working sincerely. They reported to office out of sheer compulsion as dealing with a nagging boss was not so easy for them. They were working for the sake of working. They knew that they cannot please their boss and shirked their duties behind his back. They were aware that their boss would take classes even if they do their work perfectly. Hence, they never worked whole heartedly which only added fuel to the fire of frustration of their boss. They only waited for a better opportunity to leave the organization. Everyday some or the other employees left the organization. Ajay lost his patience in explaining everything to the new comers about the systems and procedures of the organization. He lost his reputation in no time and his business was in doldrums and was on the verge of collapse. He was just wondering how could Vijay manage to reap so much of business within a short span of time.
On the other hand, Vijay was a calm and composed person. Whatever may be the circumstances, he always kept smiling. He knew that a frowning face cannot fetch any business. He was a patient listener. He believed in participative management and welcomed suggestions from his employees in making business decisions and involved them in developing business strategies. He paid incentives for outstanding contributions of his employees. His business doubled within a short span of time. Vijay introduced biometric system with flexible timings. Both Vijay and his employees worked with enthusiasm. Vijay was lenient towards his employees. He offered two short leaves to employees in a month so that they can attend to their emergency personal works. He gave space to his workers. He was aware that nothing can be attained by running after the lives of employees. Once in a while, he offered movie tickets, gift vouchers to his employees. He knew that only satisfied employees can deliver better results. He maintained cordial relations with his employees and clients. He reviewed his business status every weekend and made necessary changes in business strategies to obtain optimum results. Prompt positive responses to clients helped a lot for their continuous patronage. Success of any business depends on the attitude of entrepreneurs towards their stakeholders. Continuous appraisal of earned goodwill paid him rich dividends.
Vijay emphasized that instead of keep on squatting on problems, we should focus on solutions. Bigotry begets bigotry. A positive approach to problems pays rich dividends. As we sow, so we reap. If we keep on nagging, problems can never be resolved. We should also listen to the problems of employees and clients. Thus, we can avoid porting by employees. Working milieu matters much in yielding better productivity. Listening pays a lot.
