Allow Yourself to Struggle

[Allow Yourself to Struggle- This is another motivational article from my end to my all respectful readers. I thought to write on this topic, as I realized some of us are too resist to Struggle. But the truth is that Struggle is the very reason of our existence. And our progress or development, what we all are intended for, rests in struggle. Then why to fear to struggle? This a article for all and particularly for those who fear to struggle. I have given my utmost effort to help all to understand that- Struggle is what we are. We have no existence without Struggle. Please go ahead and do not forget to leave your valuable comment at the end….]

“Both Pandava and Kaurava were fighting against each other in the war known as Mahabharata. Although Kauravas were multiple times of Pandavas in terms of arm strength, weapon strength etc. still were losing every battle as the opposite Pandavas were well protected and guided by the Krishna- the Lord himself. In that day Guru Drona was leading the army from Kaurava’s side when in the other side Arjuna (closest and dearest disciple of Drona) was stood to counter from Pandava's side. It was well fight battle, as both had answers to the attack of the opponent. But in the end, Arjuna was the winner of the day and the battle was called off, as evening was approaching.

In the evening desperate and helpless Duryadhan met Guru Drona to discuss and fix planning for tomorrow's battle. During discussion, Duryadhan asked, “Dear Drona, how can you be defeated against Arjuna? He is your disciple and knows what, you have taught only. I am quite skeptical about your intention. I think intentionally you do not want to defeat Arjun. It looks as if you are fighting from their side.”

Drona could not hold himself anymore. He told, "Please be quiet. Please do not question my skill and intention. Look at the last 12 years. All Pandava including Arjuna were struggling and fighting in various kinds of adverse situations; while in other side myself including you all were living very luxurious lives. While on one side their struggles have made them strong, while in other side our luxury has made us vulnerable. This is the difference between us and them. This is the difference between me and Arjuna. Even if I know his each strength and his every movement but his struggling experiences have made him the winner against me."……."

My friends, what happened next is known to everybody, which is none other than winning of Pandaba against Kaurava- winning of truth against falsehood- winning of virtue against vice. But our intention is not to get into it. Our intention is to understand- how struggle can make us successful or strong. I do not mean all struggles can make you successful or strong. Some struggles may make you more vulnerable. But this is also equally true that success cannot be achieved without struggle. They are always wrong who think to be successful without testing the bitterness of failures or struggles.

Initially, if you will see, humans are made to struggle. Why human only, even every living element of the universe struggle. The struggle is the basic reason why we all are here. Where there is no struggle there is no life. There was a time when we were in the Stone Age. Now we are in software age and claim to be the most developed being the universe has seen ever. But how come this has happened? It's only because we struggled. Where there is no struggle there is no development.

We didn't get satisfied with given situation and struggled to improve. We did not get satisfied with the darkness of the night and struggled to get rid of it and developed electricity. We did not get satisfied with foot walking and struggled to develop mediums to commute and developed various mediums and our latest development in this range is the airplane. We did not get satisfied with face to face communication and struggled to know how this can be done better. And the latest development in this regard is every hand- Mobile Phone.

We need not required to go so far to understand the very need of struggle. Just look at a dead body and an alive body. What is the difference between both? The only difference is the alive one is able to breathe when the dead is not able to do the same. It means we are alive means we are struggling. We may not feel it, but this is true. Value of a single breath can be easily understood- when we see somebody dying breathlessly. And another naked truth is that- we came out of mother’s womb only because we struggled there. So our very existence and struggle cannot be separated. Both are two sides of the same coin.

Then what is the struggle? Think of an instance when you were in uncomfortable- it's may be due to failure in exam, in a relationship, in business, in work etc. Situations of this kind may happen all of a sudden or may with pre-information. Sometimes it happens automatically when sometimes it is planned or made to happen. But when it happens all of a sudden it breaks many of those who go through - like the suicide of wife due to the sudden death of husband, being mad due to some unexpected failures etc. These are the instances where struggler does not get the way out. Their struggle becomes the reason for their death.

But if we look little dip, we certainly can see examples of civilization that ended them only because they couldn’t struggle to survive. Many living binges also are found not to be seen now only because they could not struggle against the changing environment. Struggles for many which fall into this category either are all of sudden or trying to avoid. But escape is not an option. By escaping you may delay but certainly cannot avoid. You have to struggle even if you are not intended to do it.

But this is not the case always. History is full of such examples of how beautifully some people have bounced back when they had been thrown into the struggle. Take the example of Karoly Takacs, who had seen dream to be win medal in Olympic. But unfortunately, he loosed his right hand in a Grained blast. He struggled but did not stop there. And finally won gold medals for two times consecutively. There was one young lady who had the aim to be a successful football player. Things were on track but a deadly accident, which had claimed her both legs, forced her to change her plan. And finally, she ended as an Everest climber. Maybe she is the only disable so far, who is able to do it. She is no other than Arunima Sinha.

There is a famous proverb- “Where there is a wish, there is a way.” But this is required to be re-written as “Where is a wish to struggle, there are ways always available.” This also found to the seen in society in large also. See, how beautifully Japan has grown itself, after the nuclear attack by America. It accepted its struggle positively and grew at a faster rate. Think status of Odisha (state) before 1999 Cyclone. And now see how collectively it has grown.

This is all about how you are accepting your struggles. It has the potential to make or destroy you. It starts to work, the way you accept it. You may accept this as a boon or as a curse. If you accept this as a boon, it can make your future. And certainly will not take much time to destroy you and your future, if you will start to consider this a curse.

Sometimes some people invite struggles knowingly. They are the people who make history. For instance, take examples of Wright Brothers. They struggled with the thought too – how to fly in the air. And it is because of their struggles, airplane came into existence. Think about Thomas Edison, who struggled with the idea of developing electricity. And it is because their effort we could see electricity. Take example of APJ. Abdul Kalam, who along with his team had made India Nuclear Power. Examples of these kinds can be found in thousand. But what important is to learn from.

So let’s accept or invite struggle and grow.
