Once upon a time, Moral Science was very much a part of our school curriculum. Moral science was considered like a sacrosanct document. People used to take it in word and spirit. But, today so much of importance has not been given to moral science. Moral science goes a long way in helping schools to produce responsible and matured individuals. Today’s students are tomorrow’s citizens. As moral science is conspicuous by it’s absence, it leads to many misgivings among people. Many people think that over smartness, disrespecting fellow mortals is intelligence. They just football others for attaining their nefarious ends. They tend to resort to short cuts in life and become very lazy and wear lethargic attitude. Some people never do anything in life. Rather, they always get things done.” Respect the individual” is one of the principles of management. Intelligence is, in fact, application of what we have learned. Many of us learn, but only very few of us are able to apply the theories we learn in practical life and hence are distinct from others . A glaring example is computer learning. The efficiency of interface with computer of different individuals varies substantially. Sharing attitude is conspicuous by its absence. We have to develop our own computer knowledge and apply the same according to the situations obtained. We are what we learn and what we eat.
Today, we do not find reading habits among pupil. Rather, they wear electronic gadgets. Reading makes a man and writing maketh an exact man.
Leading a balanced life is important to maintain our health. Moral science goes a long way in helping us leading a balanced life. We can lead a balanced life only if we eat a balanced diet. Any deviation anywhere leads to inequilibrium and derailment which entails going for medication to restore our equanimity and equilibrium.
We are not alone in this world. Hence, we need to socially interact. Sometimes, we may have to go out of the way to help a lame dog over the style i.e those who are in need. Today, we witness people care pets more than our own fellow mortals. We are expected to give a certain percentage of our income to temples and yet another proportion for charity. Charity begins at home. Hence, we should help our own elders who are laid up, kith and kin and then to the needy around us.
A balanced life leads us to self actualization levels. As management professional Maslow says people crave for higher levels of needs only when their basic needs are fulfilled. This is very true. If we do not have two slices of bread we cannot think about anything else in this world. That ‘s why, our primary prayer should always be for two slices of bread for everybody. As selfish prayers are hardly answered, we should pray for the welfare of all and sundry.
It is easier to misbehave than to behave. Just as pure water bears fresh fruits and contaminated water bears rotten fruits, good thoughts bear good fruits and bad thoughts bear bad fruits. Same holds true with computer. Garbage in garbage out. If we feed worthless data input into a computer system, we will get only useless output.
Importance of moral science need hardly be over emphasized.
It is easier to preach than to practice. Example is better than precept. If we learn, our child will also learn. Just keep on telling him or her to study will be of no avail.
In our childhood, we have read a lot of moral stories. They have far reaching repercussions on our life.
Our children will take care of us only if we take care of them. As we sow, so we reap. It holds good everywhere in all aspects of life.
In the absence of moral science, crime graphs have shot up like anything.
Moral science teaches us how to tide over the crisis in life. Life is not a bed of roses, it involves thorny bushes as well. A pilot cannot enjoy his flight, if all skies are clear just as a driver cannot enjoy riding his car, If all roads are mess free.
Moral science teaches us to be kind with everybody. But, today, we witness restlessness everywhere. People are intolerant and impatient even at the throw of a hat for silly reasons. They always resort to short cut to come up in life. Even if they may be happy by adopting such shortcuts, such kind of happiness is only transient and does not last long.
How many of us follow queue system while we are in a queue whether to fetch milk, water or else collecting prasads at temple? Many people flirt the queue system which gives room for fracas over trifles, outrageous behavior. Here, just might is right. This axiom holds good even when we board a bus or a train. Stronger people manage to get in leaving the weaker to the oblivion fending for themselves.
We witness a lot of road rages in our day to day life as everybody is on a rat race for very survival.
Work place has become a warzone. On line mutual accusations are order of the day. Sms war also has gained momentum. We witness, how people are smart enough in passing the buck and putting the ball in others’ court, at the same time they themselves just resorting to squatting and loitering around. Time has come to realize that we will be left far behind in the oblivion unless we fight even for trivial in the travails of our life which is not a good practice. Bigotry begets bigotry. Hence, we need to love all, do our duty dutifully. Do your job with full concentration , whatever you are doing. BhagatwatGita says we have only right to do our jobs and we should not bother about results.
Meditation helps us to pacify our anger and let us go deeper within and to know more about our own self. Meditation perpetrates and precipitates calm and composed behavior. We become more patient, We listen carefully. Shakespeare says listen to many and speak to a few. But, unfortunately very few people listen. Listening helps us in enhancing our knowledge. We speak to more and never listen.
Keeping words does not have much significance in today’s world. A boss blows hot and cold even within a duration of ten minutes. Hence, we cannot count on the appreciations of a Boss as we do not know when he would throw us like a use and throw commodity out of the window. But, during Mahabharat Era paanchali kept the words of kunthi devi and married panch pandavas even though Dussassan was cruel enough to address her as a prostitute. Paanchali was sincere, ardent devotee of Lord Shri Krishna who showered His blessings in the form of air when her own pride was at stake.
Telling lies is very common nowadays. We tend to lie for anything to everything whereas if we tell lies to avert a bigger evil in emergency situations, it will be excused. When people come to know that we are lying, they will never believe us even when we tell the truth later on. We do not have to remember anything, if we tell the truth.
Some people think that “ I should only get everything, others should not get anything at all”. Horse eye view. In this sense there are more horses in this universe than the very human beings.
Some, even if, self centered, are not concerned about what others are getting. They are satisfied with what they are getting. They just do not bother about others. Fellow mortals just do not exist for them.
Some wear “ Hum be mare , thum be maro , Chal dhariya mein doob jaye “attitude. These people are catastophical. They live in restrictions within four walls. They have a very narrow, negative attitude. We should keep aloof from negative people.
Some are cool enough to think that everyone should get everything. They are broad minded people. They think that all of us are guests in this world and are mortals only. Our own very existence is only ephemeral and not eternal . A birds eye view, largesse by heart nature. Being human is the very tenet and the very existence of human being .
Moral science helps us to possess the right kind of attitude.
