Thought and Action- Never Die
Preface
Dear respectful reader, you have a story ahead. Writing the story “Thought and Action- Never Die” is an awesome experience for me. A great idea has been shaped in a story. The very idea, ‘Does our Thought and Action die with us?’ made me write this story. Although our journey from Stone Age to robot age, from needle time to airplane time speaks a lot of our success but how this does has happened? Is it the contribution of any single generation or a collective contribution of all generations? This story has the answer.
Who is first for us- ‘Society or Self’? Whether we have made society or society has made us? No doubt both are correlated with each other. One is meaningless without the other. But if there is a call to choose one between both, what would be our decision? Despite of all developments, sometimes we have decided and done something which has compelled the society of walk backward. And most of these decisions have made by the people who have considered Self above Society. For a temporary pleasure of few or a group, the great interest of society has been compromised again and again.
The story has the answer how badly a human society suffers when it happens and how long it takes to overcome it. This story also makes a request to its reader to change themselves from self centric to society centric. It is a story for all age group, specifically for young mass. Hope you will enjoy it……
-------
The sun is about to rise. A saint sitting on bank of a river was in a serious thought. He was trying to collect his thoughts, knowledge and essence of experiences on a topic. Meantime when his eye reached in east sky, he could see preparations of nature to welcome Sun. Sounds of birds, changing color of sky, blowing of air etc. were some the processes nature had initiated to greet Sun.
Without making any late he stood in his place, worshiped to Sun in its very first appearance and looked at the environment in a very peaceful manner. Once again blow of thoughts entered into his mind, but this time with much clarity and in proper sequence. Now he was looking very happy and satisfied, as if he had made all the things done on the topic he was going to address to his disciples.
After his return from river he took rest for sometime before reaching at the place where disciples already had made their reach to listen him. The saint looked at each of his disciples in ever smiling look and said, “How are you all? How was your last night? Is everything fine?”
All disciples unanimously said, “We all are fine master. How can we have any problem in your presence?”
The saint smiled again and told, “Well. But I had not good sleep in last night. A blow of thoughts disturbed me again and again. I was feeling helpless because I was not able to come to any conclusion.”
All disciples had gone very serious. They could not even understand how their master can be in trouble. Looking at their panic faces the saint continued with a smile, “There is nothing to be worried. These all were for good reasons. Finally in this morning I came to the conclusion and now I am with that. Will you love to listen it?”
All together said, “Yes master, please enlighten us in your noble thoughts.”
The saint took a deep breath and told, “Dear, my question was on how one should decide in life? Should one work for own development/betterment or for the development of the society? Because in some or many cases both stand reverse or counter to each other. If you are with one, you are just opposite to another. Per example; somebody thought to do rubbery to make self rich. In one angle he/she is working for own development (financially), when in other hand he/she is promoting a bad practice in society. Then what should the person do?”
After taking a short break saint continued, “Let me to put it in this manner. Suppose you are the alone rich person in your area. All of sudden a flood appeared and made many people homeless and foodless. People suffered like anything but you have enough to make people back to normal life. But here is fear also. If you will start to donate your money for the betterment of other people, it may make you poor. What should do then? Should you donate to make you poor or keep your money safely even if people are dying?”
Everybody was silence. They were getting into a different dimension. The saint took some water and continued, “Dear, many times we come across situations when we are asked to choose in-between self or society. If you are choosing society you are killing/murdering self with immediate effect and if you are with self you are leaving society to struggle to its worst. What one should do? What one should decide?”
“I was wondering on these confusions from last night.” Continued the saint, “But finally I reached on conclusion. Dear, everybody should know that, every thought we make and every action we do has its own impact. Its impact is not only limited to doer only, rather it leaves a very lasting impact on society as whole also. Per example, when mobile phone first came to existence its demand and usefulness were not as it is now. Each year, may be in each month we are adding to its features. Although the person who had developed it is no more alive, but his thought is still alive and will remain so in years to come also.”
The Saint continued with some serious note, “In same vain it is true in case of negative developments also. Look at threaten like terrorism, which has turned to be greatest enemy of humanity. Hardly anybody had thought this is going to be so dangerous in future. Do you think he/she is the same terrorist who is expanding it now, who had started it or thought about it? No, he/she may not be alive, but his/her thought is still alive and has been carry forward by generation after generation.”
“So we are living in time which had been thought and planed by the people (generation after generation) once upon a time.” continued saint, “They may not be alive now but their thoughts and works are still alive and working. We just pick a thought or thoughts and keep on working on it or carry forward it till our last breath. And when we die we leave for somebody else to take care. This is how the whole society has moved from Stone Age to robot age, from stick age to missile age.”
“But master, how does it happen? How a thought carry forward?” asked a disciple.
The saint smiled at him and told, “Dear, let’s continue with same example-mobile phone, which is there in every hand. If one of you will work on its development will he start from the time when there was no mobile phone or pick it from its present stage?”
“Surely from its present stage.” answered a disciple.
“You are right” continued master, “You may require to make some study from its starting just to understand its growth. But there is no need to work from beginning. Your job is to take it from its present status and develop on it, which will bring mobile phones with added features or with more facilities. And when you will leave this work or die, you leave it for future generation people to take forward. This how whole human society has progressed from starting itself.”
The saint immediately became silent and thought for a while. All had gone silence. Nobody was uttering a word. Saint opened his eye, looked all pleasantly and said, “This is why one should understand none our thoughts or actions go meaningless. Everything remains active here and shows its impact, when its time comes. So one needs to be enough careful before thinking or working on something. It not only going to impact one life or lives of a particular group rather whole human society is going to be impacted by it.”
One disciple stood up and said, “Dear Master, we all are grateful to you. Thank you very much for sharing such priceless knowledge. But as you told each of our thought and action affects society, irrespective of whether it is go or bad, then what one should do when there is a situation to choose one in-between society and self? Whether one should do something if it is benefiting self only? How logical it to do work for society even if it brings loss for self?”
“Dear all” continued master “Your question is really valuable. This is the question which had made me confused last night. We had also started this discussion from this question itself. However this is purely personal question for one to deal with. This is one of the criteria to rate a human. I can only suggest you the ideal one.”
With a pause the saint continued, “See, none of us is permanent here. Death is the only certainty after birth. None can avoid it, irrespective of class, nation, cast, financial background etc. But as explained to you our thoughts and actions remain alive forever and ever. Those keep on adding its goodness or badness on times to come.”
The saint continued, “History is full with the examples, how people who worked for the benefit for society, sometimes in the cost of their own lives, have been remembered forever and ever. They actually have made no loss to self but have brought many benefits to the society. Physically they are not here. Their enjoyments and sufferings have come to the end with their lives. But the ways they have benefited to the society are going many folded from time to time. Yes you may give examples of negative peoples (terrorists, antisocial etc.) who are also remembered after their death. But they are remembered for all the negative reasons. And their contribution in terms of thoughts and actions are making the world more dangerous place to live in. So you need to decide in which row you want to make you to stand.”
The saint looked at sun. He realized it has gone enough late. With a short break he moved towards his concluding comments, “Dear, there is no option for you to stay neutral. Because hardly anybody can live without thought and action. Definitely you are part of problem if you are not part of solution. So if you are not adding yourself to make this world a better place to live then you are certainly among those, who are harming the society. You may not but your thoughts and actions (the way you have managed those) will do its job even after your death. There is no logic to make the society to suffer ahead, (only because you want take some temporary enjoyment), when you have the option to make the society a good place to live. So I said this it is purely a personal decision to make, whether you are ready to take pain on self to make the society benefited out of it or you will take personal enjoyment in the cost of society. If you want to take live example look at army personnel. See the way they sacrifice their life betterment of kingdom.”
The saint took a deep breath and concluded, “They are great who sacrifice (what they have) for betterment of society, good are those who consider society and self while making a decision and worst are those who make the society to suffer only for their personal development or development of a particular group. Now decide your life and live it. Thank you very much.”
The saint moved towards his resting room and disciples towards their next schedule of the day. Saint was looking happy as he had shared his best experience and disciples were delighted because they had the best model to decide their future.
