એ રાત રોજ કરતા વધારે અંધારી હતી. બહારથી તમરાનો અવાજ આવતો તો ક્યારેક કૂતરાના ભસવાનો અવાજ આવતો. રાત ની નિરવ શાંતિમાં એ અવાજ ભયાનક લાગતો. કેમેય કરીને મને ઊંઘ આવતી નહોતી. મારા ડરથી બચવા મેં પગથી માથા સુધીની રજાઈ ઓઢી લીધી. ત્યાં જ અચાનક દીદીનો ગભરાયેલો અવાજ આવ્યો. “કોણ છે ” મેં મોં પરથી રજાઈ સહેજ હટાવીને એક આંખથી જોયું તો અંધારામાં વરંડામાં એક આકાર ઊભો થઇ, ઝડપભેર અદ્રશ્ય થઇ ગયો.દીદી પથારીમાં બેઠી થઇ ગઈ. હવે મને વધુ ડર લાગી રહ્યો હતો. પરંતુ એ તો હજુ પણ ઊંઘતી જ હતી.
