પ્રારંભના દિવસોમાં ભાભી સરસ મજાની તૈયાર થતી, કામથી પરવારીને રાતે પણ સ્નાન કરતી પણ પન્ના જોતી હતી, કઈક આશ્ચર્યથી. આ ઉંમર નર્યા કુતુહલોની હતી. કાંઇક સમજાતું પણ ખરું, થોડી અટવાતી પણ ખરી. ક્યારેક સિફતપૂર્વક પ્રેમાને પૂછી લેતી હતી. “ભાભી... આમ રાતે તૈયાર શા માટે થતી હશે? તેને ગમતું હશે... ગમતું જ હશે વળી. અને ભાઈને પણ ગમતું જ હશે...લગ્ન પછી આમ જ કરાતું હશે...” તે અનુમાનો બાંધતી હતી, તોડતી હતી, નવાં બાંધતી હતી, પણ મજા આવતી એ વાત ચોક્કસ. કુસુમ પાસેથી પસાર થતી તો સેન્ટની સુગંધ પથરાવા લાગતી. અંદરનો ખંડ... પલંગ... ઓછાડ... ઓશીકાં તો મઘમઘતા હશે...! પન્નાનું મન કામે લાગી જતું.
