મનુ નામનો એક નાનકડો છોકરો નાના ગામમાં રહેતો હતો. તે અનાથ હતો, એના માતા-પિતા બહુ નાનપણમાં જ મૃત્યુ પામ્યા હતા. મનુએ જીવનમાં ક્યારેય પ્રેમ અને મમતાનો આસ્વાદ ન હોતો લીધો. તે રોજે રોજ પોતાના પેટ માટે સંઘર્ષ કરતો. એનો દિવસ ઘર ઘર જઈને ભિક્ષા માંગતા જ પસાર થતો.એક શિયાળાની કડકડતી ઠંડીનો દિવસ હતો. એનો પાસે ઠંડીથી બચવા માટે ગરમ કપડાં ના હતા. જે કપડાં એને પહેર્યા હતા, તે ચાર પાંચ વરસ જૂના અને ફાટેલા હતા. તે મંદિરના ઓટલે બેસીને ભીખ માંગતો હતો, પણ મંદિરમાંથી મહર નીકળતા ભક્તો એને 50 પૈસા, 1 રૂપિયાથી વધારે આપતા ના હતા. એટલાથી તો જેનું જમવાનું
