આજે જન્માષ્ટમી હતી. કૃષ્ણનગરમાં મેળો હતો. કેટલાય દિવસોથી બાળકો આતુરતાપૂર્વક મેળાની રાહ જોતાં હતાં. આજે ઉમંગ અને ઉત્સાહનો એ દિવસ હતો. સવાર પડતાંની સાથે જ "મેળો... મેળો..." કરતાં બાળકો થાકતા નહોતાં. એક ઘરથી બીજે ઘર, ને એક ગલીથી બીજી ગલીમાં રમઝટ જામી પડી હતી. બાળકોનો પ્રિય ઉત્સવ એટલે મેળો. એમના માટે મેળો એટલે જાણે સ્વર્ગની ઉજાણી. આર્યન પણ કંઈ કેટલાય દિવસથી મેળાની રાહ જોતો હતો. પરંતુ આજે મેળાના દિવસે એ ઉદાસ હતો. એ વિચારતો હતો કે 'બાકીના બધા બાળકો તો પોત-પોતાના પિતા સાથે મેળામાં જશે. પરંતું હું કોની સાથે મેળામાં જઈશ?' આ વિચારે એની મેળામાં મહાલવાની ખુશી ઉદાસીમાં ફેરવાઈ ગઈ
