અફસોસ સતત આવતા ઉધરસના ઠહકાથી આંખો રૂમ ગુંજી ઉઠ્યો. તેણે બેડ પર સુતા સુતા જ સાઈડ ટેબલ પર પડેલ પાણીનો ગ્લાસ પકડવાની કોશિશ કરી, પરંતુ એકદમ આવતી ઉધરસના કારણે હાથનો ધક્કો લાગ્યોને ગ્લાસ નીચે પડી ગયો. મા... પોતાની પત્ની માલતીને બોલાવવા પ્રયત્ન કર્યો,પણ શબ્દો ગળામાં અટવાઈ ગયા. ફરીવાર પ્રયત્ન કર્યો, પરંતુ મોંમાંથી શબ્દો નીકળે તે પહેલાં તો ઉધરસ શરૂ થઇ જતી. તેણે ધીમે ધીમે બેડ પરથી ઉભા થવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો, પરંતુ શરીર પણ સાથ ના આપતું હોય તેમ ફસડાઈ પડ્યો. થોડીવાર એમ જ પડ્યા રહ્યા પછી ફરી ઉઠવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો. ધ્રુજતાં હાથે બેડની કોરને પકડી ઉભો થયો,અને હાંફવા લાગ્યો. બેડની
