ગૌરીને આજે બધું ખાલીખમ લાગી રહ્યું હતું. નાના આ શહેરનું ઘર તો મોટુંમસ હતું. બધોયે સરસામાન ખસેડી દઈએ તો, પચાસ માણસોને અલાયદાં ગોદડાં પાથરી જમીન પર સૂવાનું થાય , તો યે વચ્ચે ચાલવાની જગ્યા રહે એટલો મોટો તો બેઠકખંડ હતો. આગળ મઝાની પરસાળ અને ત્યાં અસલ પિત્તળનો ગામવાળી હવેલીએથી આણેલો ઘુઘરિયાળો હીંચકો. બે મોટાં ઓરડાં, દરેકમાં લાકડાંનાં બબ્બે પલંગ, મશરૂની તળાઈઓથી ભરેલાં. નીચે ક્યાંય પગ ના મૂકવો પડે, એટલે જમીન ઉપર પાથરેલાં દોઢ ઈંચના નરમ ગાલીચા. ભીંતો પર ચાકળા ને વળી કુદરતી રંગો વડે હાથે દોરેલાં ચિત્રોની મહેક. મોટું, ઉજાસવાળું રસોડું જ્યાં કોલસાની સગડીથી લઈ ઇન્ડક્શન ચૂલા સુધીની સગવડ. ઉપરના માળે
