સૈનિક વીરસીંગ આ વાત 1971ના ભારત-પાકિસ્તાન વચ્ચે થયેલા યુદ્ધ સમયની છે. ભારત અને પાકિસ્તાન વચ્ચે થયેલા આ યુદ્ધમાં પાકિસ્તાન હારી ગયું હતું. યુદ્ધ પતી ગયા બાદ યુદ્ધ માટે ગયેલા સૈનિક વીરસીંગના કોઇ સમાચાર મળ્યા ન હતાં. ફોજ તરફથી એના પરિવારજનોને એવું કહેવામાં આવ્યું હતું કે "સૈનિક વીરસીંગ યુદ્ધ લડતા લડતા પાકિસ્તાનની સરહદમાં દાખલ થઇ ગયો હતો અને વીરગતિને પ્રાપ્ત થયો હતો એવું અમારું માનવું છે." માત્ર આટલો જ સંદેશો ફોજ તરફથી સૈનિક વીરસીંગના પિતા મહાવીરસીંગને મળ્યો હતો. આ સંદેશો મળ્યાને પણ એક વરસ વીતી ગયું હતું. પિતા મહાવીરસીંગ અને એમના પત્ની દિવ્યબાળાબહેન એવું સ્વીકારી શક્યા ન હતાં કે
