હમણાં હમણાં મને W H Auden (વિખ્યાત અમેરિકન કવિ ) ની કવિતા The Unknown Citizenયાદ આવી. મેં એનું ગુજરાતી અનુસર્જન ક્યાંક 'કીર્તિસ્તંભ' ના નામે વાંચેલ એવું યાદ આવ્યું. જો કે વાંચ્યા પછી મેં એ અનુવાદને મારુ શીર્ષક ‘અમથેઅમથા અમથાલાલ’ એવું આપ્યું છે ). અમથાલાલ એ બીજું કોઈ નહીં પણ સામાન્ય નાગરિક જે લગભગ આખી જિંદગી નીચી મૂંડીએ જીવી નાખે , ભાગે આવતું કામ કરી નાખે , જો કોઈ ને ખબર પણ ન પડે એવી ખાતરી હોય તો ક્યારેક ક્યારેક નાના પાયે નીતિમતા નેવે પણ મૂકે પણ આમ ગભરુ અને ઈશ્વર અને વધુ તો સમાજ થી બીતો ફરે. આવા નાગરિક નો
