*ડોશીમા* રતનપર નામનું એક ગામ હતું. એ ગામમાં અંદાજે સો એક ખોરડા હશે! આખું ગામ એકબીજા જોડે હળીમળીને રહે. ગામના સીમાડે એક વૃદ્ધ વિધવા ડોશીમા રહેતા હતાં. તેમને એક દીકરી હતી. જેને લગ્ન બાજુનાં જ ગામમાં કર્યા હતા. બંને ગામ વચ્ચે એક મંથરા નામનું જંગલ હતું. આ જંગલમાં જાતજાતના અને ભાતભાતના પશુ-પક્ષી અને વૃક્ષો હતા. આ જંગલમાં ખાસ કરીને વાઘ અને દીપડાનો ખૂબ જ ત્રાસ હતો. અવારનવાર તે ગામ લોકોને મારી ખાતા હતા. આથી ગામ લોકો જંગલમાં જતા ખૂબ જ ડરતા હતા. એક દિવસ બન્યું એવું કે ડોશીમાની દીકરી કંઈક સંજોગો વસતા માંદી
