સમી સાંજનો સૂરજ ઢળી રહ્યો હતો. પશ્ચિમ દિશામાં સાયંકાળનું એક નયનરમ્ય દૃશ્ય રચાયું હતું. પંખીઓ આખો દિવસ વિહાર કરીને નિજ માળવે પધારી રહ્યાં હતાં. રોજની જેમ આજે પણ રમાબેન સાંજ પડતાં જ ખેતરેથી ઘરે આવી રહ્યાં હતાં. પવનની લહેરો જાણે કંઈક સંદેશો આપી રહી હોય એમ સૂસવાટા મારતી વહેતી હતી. જાણે એ લહેરોમાં કોઈના આવવાના ભણકારા સંભળાઈ રહ્યા હતા. કોઈના આવવાનો ભણકારો થવો એટલે આનંદની વાત કહેવાય. પરંતુ રમાબેનના ચહેરા પર આજે એ ખુશી છલકાતી ન હતી. રમાબેનનું આ જગમાં એમનાં એકના એક પુત્ર કિશન સિવાય બીજું કોઈ જ ન હતું. તેમના પતિ તો કિશન નાનો હતો ત્યારે જ રમાબેન
