મધ્યાહનનો સૂરજ માથે ચડીને તપતો હતો. રસ્તાઓ સૂનકાર પડ્યા હતાં. રોજ માણસોની ચહલ-પહલ અને વાહનોના અવાજથી રોડ ગુંજતો હોય છે. દર 10 સેકન્ડે હૉર્ન વાગ્યાં કરતાં હોય, એ રોડ આજે મને શાંત લાગ્યો. એ વાહનોના અવાજની જગ્યાએ આજે કલબલાટ સંભળાયો. એક કાગડાઓનું ટોળું હતું. બધા ભેગા થઇ એક બચ્ચાંને મારતા હતાં. બચ્ચું આમ તેમ ઉડાઉડ કરે. પ્રયત્ન કરે ઉડવાનો પણ વધારે ઊંચે ઉડાય નહી અને ટોળું તો એને ફરી વળેલું, જ્યાં બચ્ચું જાય ત્યાં ત્યાં ટોળું જાય, ચાંચો મારવા. આ બધું જોઈને મને નવાઈ લાગી કે કાગડીના બચ્ચાંને કાગડાં કેમ મારે છે?
