વડોદરાથી રાત્રે 10.30 વાગે ઉપડતી વડોદરા એક્સપ્રેસ ટ્રેન હજુ પ્લેટફોર્મ ઉપર મુકાઈ નહોતી. ચોમાસાની સીઝન હતી એટલે ઝાઝી ભીડ પણ નહોતી. પોતાના કોચ નંબરની સામેના એક બાંકડા ઉપર બેસીને અનિરુદ્ધ ટ્રેનની રાહ જોઈ રહ્યો હતો. જેવી ટ્રેન યાર્ડમાંથી પ્લેટફોર્મ ઉપર આવી કે તરત જ અનિરુદ્ધ એના સ્લીપર કોચમાં ચડી ગયો અને છઠ્ઠા કમ્પાર્ટમેન્ટમાં પોતાના નંબરની બર્થ શોધી એણે બેઠક લીધી. ટ્રેન લગભગ ખાલી જ હતી. થોડીવાર પછી સાઠેક વર્ષ ની આસપાસના દેખાતા એક અંકલ પણ એ જ કમ્પાર્ટમેન્ટમાં આવ્યા. આવતા જ એમણે નીચે સામાન મૂકી સૌથી ઉપરની બર્થ ઉપર લંબાવી દીધું. ટ્રેન લગભગ ઉપડવાની જ હતી એ જ સમયે હાંફળી ફાંફળી
