અમાસનો અંધકાર દીશાઓમાં વ્યાપી ગયો હતો. કોઈ નવ યૌવનાએ આંજેલા કાજલ ભાંતી અંધકાર સમયને ડરાવી રહ્યો હતો . ટમ ટમ કરતા તારલાઓ પણ અમાસના પ્રભાવ ને ઓછો કરી શકતા ન હતા. ચો તરફ સ્મશાન વત શાંતિ હતી. પવનના સુસવાટા દિશાઓને વધુ ડરામણી બનાવી રહયાં હતાં. પવનમાં સમાયેલી શીતળતા અગ્નિદાહ સમાન લાગતી હતી. લથળતા પગે રાજા ધૃતરાષ્ટ્ર મહાદેવના મંદિર તરફ જઈ રહ્યાં હતાં. માથા પર મુકુટની શોભના સ્થાને ખુલ્લા વાળનું સામ્રાજ્ય હતું. જન્મવત નિસ્તેજ આંખો પર અશ્રુધારાઓનું આધિપત્ય હતું. વસ્ત્રો વેર વિખેર હતાં. ઉતાવળના લીધે કદાચ ચરણ પાદુકા રાજ મહેલમાં જ રહી ગઈ હતી. મદિરાના નશાની માફક લથળતા પગને
