પડદો ખસેડીને કલ્કી ટેરેસમાં આવી. ધીમો ધીમો પવન વાતો હતો. સૂર્યનાં તાજાં કિરણો ગુલમહોરના વૃક્ષ ઉપર પડતાં હતાં. કલ્કી આ ગુલમહોરને નિરખી રહી હતી. એક ક્ષણ માટે એ ૧૦ વર્ષ પાછળ જતી રહી, જ્યારે એના પિતા કેશવલાલે આ બંગલો બંધાવ્યો અને એ લોકો રહેવા આવ્યાં. કલ્કી નાની હતી. એ વખતે તેણે આ ગુલમહોર રોપ્યો હતો. એને ગુલમહોર અને ગુલાબ બન્ને ખૂબ જ ગમતાં. ૧૦ વર્ષથી આ રંગ બદલતી પહૉર પી પીને ગુલમહોરનો રંગ વધુ ઘેરો બન્યો હતો. કલ્કી ખુરશીમાં બેઠી. એની નજર દરવાજા તરફ ગઈ. માળી અંદર આવ્યો. બંગલાના ફૂલ છોડને પાણી સીંચવાના કામમાં લાગી ગયો.
