ઘરમાં આજે બધા ખુશ હતા. દાયણે બહાર આવીને કહ્યું હતું કે, " બે દિવસમાં નિરુને પ્રસવનું દર્દ થઇ જશે!! " નિરુનો આ બીજો પ્રસવ પ્રસંગ હતો. પ્રથમ સંતાનરૂપે તો નિરુને દીકરીનો જન્મ થયેલો હતો જ, ત્યારથી તેની સાસુ કડવીના કડવા ઝેર જેવા મેણાં સાંભળી તેના કાન પાકી ગયા હતા. એને તો રોજનું હતું કે, "અભાગણી! મારા ઘરમાં આવી અને મારા ઘરમાંથી સુખ-ચેન જતું રહ્યું. મારા કુળને એક કુળદીપક નથી આપી શકતી. કરમ ફૂટ્યા મારા કે, તારા જેવી કાળમુખીને મારા એકના એક દીકરા સાથે પરણાવી. પણ બા મારો તો શું દોષ? ભગવાન આગળ મારું શું ચાલવાનું!! બસ! મુંગી મર! મારી સામે
