પાનખર ઋતુની શરૂઆત થઇ ચૂકી હતી.વૃક્ષો પણ જાણે સાપ પોતાની કાંચળી ઉતારે છે તે રીતે સૂકાયેલા પાંદડાંઓને ખંખેરી રહ્યા હતા અને નવા પાંદડાઓ આવવાની રાહ જોઈ રહ્યા હતા.અમદાવાદનાં આંબાવાડી વિસ્તારની નવદીપ સોસાયટીમાં પરેશ અને સવિતા રાબેતા મુજબ પૂરી સોસાયટીમાં ઝાડુ લગાવી રહ્યા હતા.લગભગ છેલ્લા પાંચેક વરસથી પરેશ અને તેની પત્ની સોસાયટીમાં સાફ-સફાઈ અને ગટર સફાઈનું કામ કરતા હતા.ગટરો ભરાઈ જવાના કિસ્સામાં પરેશ છેક ગટરોની ચેમ્બરોમાં ઉતરીને સાફ-સફાઈ કરતો હતો.પરેશ આખી સોસાયટીમાં બધાંનો વિશ્વાસુ બની ચૂક્યો હતો.જોકે સવિતાને પરેશનું ગટરો સાફ કરવાનું કામ બિલકુલ ગમતું નહોતું.તે વારંવાર ફરિયાદ કરતી કે સાફ-સફાઈનું તો ઠીક
